Are you overwhelmed by chronic pain leading to feelings of isolation, anxiety, or depression? Do you worry that your pain is interfering with your relationships? Book a free intro call Let me reassure you that all pain is real, and your pain experience will always be respected by me. I have studied with the Pain Preprocessing Therapy Centre in the USA, and my clients have experienced the benefits of exploring their pain. Pain is both a sensory and emotional experience, and can become distressing for many reasons. You may have had pain for decades, you may have scans that show no obvious structural issues but have severe pain, or you may have pain that moves around your body, or comes and goes. Whatever your experience, studies show the benefits in talking about your pain and its impact on your life. There are many different ways we can approach pain counselling. I have training in numerous therapies listed below, and the person-centred approach means we explore what is most effective for you. This means I accept you as you are, will not judge you. Your pain is real and impacting your life. We can work together, whether you are working with others, if you are taking medications or not, if you have a plan of action or if you feel lost. I also have lived experience of chronic pain and realise how pain affects our lives, and life affects our pain. APPROACHES TO PAIN COUNSELLING I keenly study effective, science-based pain management therapies. Some of these include: * Pain Reprocessing Therapy * Mindfulness-based Pain Relief * Person-centred Therapy * Acceptance and Commitment Therapy * Humanistic Therapies * Cognitive & Dialectical Behaviour Therapy PAIN REPROCESSING THERAPY There are numerous ways we can reduce pain distress, including Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT). I am a certified practitioner (Advanced Application) of Pain Reprocessing Therapy. Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT) is a system of psychological techniques that retrains the brain to interpret and respond to signals from the body properly, subsequently breaking the cycle of chronic pain. Whilst we are all different, many people experience great improvement in their pain through PRT. A randomized controlled trial at the University of Colorado Boulder validated Pain Reprocessing Therapy as the most effective current treatment for chronic pain. In the study, there were 100 chronic back pain patients. Half of them received PRT twice a week for four weeks, and half of them received treatment as usual. In the PRT group, 98% of patients improved and 66% of patients were pain-free or nearly pain-free at the end of treatment. These outcomes were largely maintained one year later. Read the study in JAMA Psychiatry here. For Pain Reprocessing Therapy sessions, you can book weekly, as needed, or in a structured 8-part program. Pain Reprocessing Therapy has five main components: 1) education about the brain origins, 2) gathering and reinforcing personalised evidence for the brain origins and potential reversibility of pain, 3) attending to and appraising pain sensations through a lens of safety, 4) addressing other emotional threats, and 5) gravitating to positive feelings and sensations. Reduced pain, depression, anxiety, and distress are some common observed benefits of mindfulness interventions. Research shows even just a few minutes of practice has substantial impact. And, exercises can be practiced anytime, anywhere. For these reasons, mindfulness-based pain relief can be easily adapted into a variety of pain care practices. Together, we explore different techniques to find what works for you. Some ways mindfulness helps us explore our pain is through: * reducing stress and reactivity * guided visualisations * compassion meditations * emotion focused meditation * exploring positive emotions, such as gratitude, joy, and kindness * cultivating a deeper connection with body, emotions, and relationships with others IN PERSON All sessions are currently online.
