WHAT IS GENERATIVE AI?

Generative AI is a class of artificial intelligence algorithms and can be seen
as an extension of human creativity, allowing us to realize ideas that might be
beyond our personal skills or resources. The collaboration between human and AI
is opening up new possibilities in a wide range of fields, from art and music to
design and storytelling.

WHAT ARE SOME USES FOR GENERATIVE AI?

Generative AI can make things like pictures, music, or even entire stories. It
learns from examples and then uses that learning to create something original.
So if you give it a description like “a cat on a bicycle,” it can whip up an
image that matches. It’s a powerful tool that’s helping to redefine the
boundaries of creativity and data processing.

WHAT IS SYNTHOGRAPHY?

Imagine if you could just describe an image with words, and a computer could
whip up that picture for you. Well, welcome to the world of synthography! It’s
like the love child of artificial intelligence and photography. A “synthograph”
is an image made by AI that’s been trained to paint a picture based on your
words. It’s a bit like having an ultra-modern, super-fast, robot artist at your
beck and call.

WHAT MAKES GENERATIVE AI SO SPECIAL?

There are so many ways to answer this but I’ll start here. Generative AI is a
game-changer for those with accessibility needs. Whether a human struggles to
get their vision onto a canvas because of physical constraints or creative
challenges, Generative AI has the ability to remove some of those barriers and
gives more people the ability to express themselves creatively and this is a
world I am very supportive of.

WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON AI TRAINING MODELS?

It’s obviously a nuanced and sensitive subject but I see it like this: reading a
book, an article, a magazine or anything else to gain knowledge is my way of
learning. A generative AI training on data is the machine equivalent. Just as I
might read a book, absorb the information, and then explain it to someone else,
an AI system trains on data, learns patterns, and uses that knowledge to
generate new, relevant content based on my prompts. Both involve learning from a
source and then creatively applying or sharing that knowledge in a useful way. I
understand not everyone shares this sentiment and I share this as my personal
feelings as a career digital creator, a word lover, and now a synthographer.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE COLOR?

My favorite color has always been blue but I find myself pretty drawn to green
as of late. Green feel like life to me. I love to be surrounded by green and I

WHAT GENERATIVE AI TOOL DO YOU USE?

When I fell down this rabbit hole last year I explored all of the available
tools at the time, I ultimately landed on Midjourney and there are so many
reasons why I am now a ride-or-die, the primary one being the humanity and heart
behind the team that is building it. Such a magnificent group of humans building
this technology and for all the right reasons.
