THE U.S. HAS THE LARGEST IMMIGRATION DETENTION SYSTEM IN THE WORLD.

On any given day, tens of thousands of children and adults are detained in
immigrant jails and prisons across the U.S. They are denied access to a
court-appointed attorney, a free phone call, or a speedy trial. Many of them are
subjected to medical neglect, sexual and physical assault, and other human
rights abuses. Roughly 80 percent of adults in immigration detention are held
private prisons, and the rest are locked up in county and city jails, all of
which profit off their inhumane incarceration. The U.S. government and the
private prison industry have been exporting immigration detention to governments
across the globe. This is unacceptable.

THIS IS WHY WE ARE FIGHTING FOR FREEDOM FOR IMMIGRANTS.
AND YOU CAN, TOO.

JOIN THE MOVEMENT

Freedom for Immigrants’ National Immigration Detention Hotline has been
restored. After it was featured in Orange Is The New Black, ICE terminated our
hotline. While we are still fighting, we have secured a preliminary injunction.
Please help us spread the word that anyone in detention nationwide can call us
for free by dialing our extension 9233. Learn more here.

WHO WE ARE

OUR IMPACT

Through our visitation network, hotline, and other initiatives, we are building
power together and across borders to end immigration detention.

 OUR MISSION & VALUES

We are dedicated to abolishing immigration detention worldwide, while ending the
isolation of people currently suffering in this profit-driven system.

detention to provide them with support and end their isolation.

Policy Advocacy

Working with lawmakers to introduce groundbreaking legislation to put an end to
ICE detention.

Mapping Immigration Detention

We invite people to use our new interactive map of U.S. immigration detention to
learn more about this system.

NATIONAL BOND FUND

Detained immigrants sometimes have the opportunity to be released on a cash bond
— which is like bail — while fighting their cases.  Once bonded out, they are
eight times more likely to win their immigration cases. But without the ability
to pay a bond, many individuals are forced to languish in immigration detention
and away from their loved ones and communities.

That's why we have developed a revolving bond fund to assist families who are
simply in need of a loan that may be recycled to help someone else win their
freedom in the future.

Our new map keeps track of the more than 200 detention facilities in the U.S.,
ICE contracts, bond statistics, the programs in our visitation network, and
more.

PINE PRAIRIE, LA — The Southeast Dignity Not Detention (SDND) coalition, a group
of local and national organizations committed to immigrants’ rights, today
applauds the impending closure of the Pine Prairie ICE Processing Center (Pine
Prairie), a remote immigrant detention center in Louisiana with a long history
of human rights abuses and inhumane conditions. The coalition is also calling on
the Biden administration to immediately release the more than 100 community
members who have been cruelly transferred to Winn Correctional Center (Winn),
another privately-run, understaffed, and long-troubled immigration detention
center in Louisiana.
