A teenager has been shot by his uncle while hunting in a small village in rural
Victoria.
The 14-year-old was hunting for deer with his uncle Matt Wright in Cheshunt when
he was accidentally shot in the leg on Friday morning.

An air ambulance was dispatched, and the boy was taken to hospital with lower
body injuries in a serious, but stable condition.
According to witnesses, the bullet went straight through the boy’s leg.
Wright carried the injured boy into the local General Store for help, where
Thomas Moritz helped to stop the bleeding with bandages.
“He was very, very stressed out, he was in shock,” Moritz told 7NEWS.
“It’s a sheer freak accident, you might grab the gun the wrong way or something
or the safety is off or (there’s) malfunctioning of the gun, who knows.”

Wright had posted on social media on Thursday about the planned trip with his
nephew.
“It’s been a while between adventures with this absolute legend,” he wrote
alongside a picture of the two.
“Off we go chasing the big browns ... yeow.”
The boy will spend the night in the Royal Children’s Hospital.
Cheshunt is about 270km northeast of Melbourne and about 100km from Mt Buller.
