First Impressions: NZ monthly employment indicator, April 2021

FIRST IMPRESSIONS: NZ MONTHLY EMPLOYMENT INDICATOR, APRIL 2021

Michael Gordon

May 28, 2021

Filled jobs rose 0.3% in April, taking them slightly above pre-Covid levels.
Employment held up over the summer period despite the absence of international
tourists, and is gaining momentum again.

Monthly employment indicator, April 2021

Employment continued to pick up in April, with filled jobs up a further 0.3% for
the month. The number of jobs is now slightly above its pre-Covid peak.

the absence of international tourists was weighing most heavily. Now that we’re
past that stage, the number of jobs has resumed its gradual upward trend.

The growth in employment does not suggest that firms are having increased
difficulty in filling vacancies in recent months.
