England reached 89 for one in their second innings at lunch on day three of the
opening Test against India here on Saturday.

In reply to England’s 246, India were all out for 436 in the morning session on
Saturday.

After lunch, 27 overs were bowled and 83 runs were made by England and 4 wickets
were fallen. Not the session England would have wanted as they have lost their 4
wickets and after a wonderful start they are well behind the eight ball once
again. They were 89/1 coming into the second session and both Ben duckett and
Ollie pope started off well, playing their shots and raking in the runs but then
Duckett was cleaned up by Bumrah and Joe root fell prey to the same man a few
minutes later. Pope held one end well. However, the latter was bamboozled by a
beauty from the Jadeja and then skipper Ben stokes was bowled, leaving Pope
stranded at one end and 67 unbeaten runs to his name. Ben Foakes is alongside
Pope and this pair is now very crucial for England.

India will be delighted with that session as they have been able to make inroads
and have dismissed all of the dangerous batters. The second started in a similar
way to much of the previous one with the Indian spinners being put away for the
boundaries but then Jasprit bumrah came back into the attack and made things
happen as the ball started to reverse a bit. Later on Jadeja and Ashwin also
bowled good spells and picked up a crucial wicket to hand their side a big
advantage. India only lead by just 18 more runs but will be hoping to pick up
all 5 remaining wickets in the final session and chase down as small a total as
possible.
