"We lost my little brother, Thomas, to suicide in April 2022. It came as quite a shock to us. We didn't know he was struggling. Tom was an incredible person. A way of dealing with this grief has been to focus on trying to prevent this from happening to the next person. "I read a saying once that someone dies two deaths if you don't keep their stories and name alive. Any initiative we can get involved in where we're trying to de-stigmatise conversations surrounding mental health and get the conversation going is important to my family. "No one knew Tom was struggling. So a lot of us have had to sit with that. Everyone has thoughts of, ‘What could I have done differently? What could I have done better?’ Then the conversation turns to, 'What could we do for the next person, so that we're not having another Tom lost in the community?'" Read Annie's full story on our website (link in bio). Today our hearts go out to Annie and her family, and to all Australians who have been touched by a life lost to suicide. 🧡 This June, Annie is participating in The Push-Up Challenge as part of her mission to facilitate conversations around suicide and mental health challenges. Join her by signing up to complete 3,249 push-ups in June, spotlighting the number of lives tragically lost to suicide in 2022. Link in bio. Read more @pushforbetter15 Apr 2024 Share pushforbetter Meet Francis, a long-time participant of The Push-Up Challenge, from Adelaide, SA. He shares why the Challenge is so close to his heart: “I do this with some of my mates. We had an old friend of ours in high school who passed due to mental health. We didn’t know what else to do during the mourning stage... One day I was scrolling Facebook, and I saw The Push-Up Challenge and I went to the boys and rallied them up. We gave it a go – and we loved it. "The first step is always daunting, but even if you do half a push-up, or if you even take the effort to get on the ground and try, that’s enough. At the end of the day, everyone has their own capacities, but nothing negative comes from trying. And nothing happens from doing nothing. "It’s incredibly rewarding doing The Push-Up Challenge. I look forward to it every year.” Read Francis’ full story on our website to see how he got through his own tough mental health challenges, and the touching moment last year that made all of his push-ups worth it.
