BUSINESS IN DRIVING SOLUTIONS

When: Saturday, June 1st, 2024
Where: INSEAD Europe Campus (Boulevard de Constance, 77305 Fontainebleau,
France).

Business Schools for Climate Leadership (BS4CL) brings together leading alumni
from its eight partner schools in a unique conference to explore how to

Participating Schools: Cambridge Judge Business School, HEC Paris, IE Business
School, IESE Business School, the International Institute for Management

jointly promote to accelerate the role of the private sector in financing the
climate transition and achieving the objectives agreed at the UNFCCC
   Conference of the parties (COP).
 * Act as a bridge between COPs, inspiring business to take a leadership role in
   achieving progress.
 * Design an action plan to mobilize alumni from all 8 leading European business
schools in a united effort to magnify the role of business in climate

Description: Achieving Net Zero by 2050 will necessitate a massive reallocation
of capital around the world that will only succeed if both public and private
sector financial organisations ensure that their financing decisions and other
actions support decarbonisation efforts in the real economy. In this session, we
focus specifically on the role of financial innovation in delivering the climate
transition. Can new investment products or financing mechanisms, such as
transition and blended finance, accelerate impact at scale in the real economy?
What are promising new developments but also challenges in this field?

Description: We all agree that business schools have a crucial role to play in
enabling that critical transition to a more equitable and sustainable society
and one that places the global climate and crisis at the centre of all
considerations. The challenge at hand is about ensuring business schools be
agents of change at a scale and speed that is needed to address the world’s
environmental and social crises.  What are business schools doing to equip
future leaders to act responsibly and drive sustainable, meaningful change in
business? How are business schools motivating students to embrace the concepts,
tools, and frameworks connected to sustainable development practices? How are
business schools engaging their alumni communities in projects positively
impacting communities around the world, extending a ripple effect far beyond our
classrooms?

Description: There is a huge disconnect between where we should be on our
journey to net zero and where we are. What is keeping us from transitioning
faster? Which are the moral, technical, social and financial dilemmata? What
effect is energy having on geopolitical developments, and how can we make it a
just transition? Panelists with a truly international background share best
practices in system leadership, tech and finance.

 * Alexander Palkovsky: Vice-President, Euro Lithium-Borates

Description: By breaking free of fossil fuels, we are entering a new
technological odyssey, in fact setting ourselves up for a new dependence―on
natural resources and rare metals that have become vital to our new ecological
and digital society. But what does it really mean in terms of environmental
impact, economic costs, and geopolitical considerations? We see great
investments being dedicated to the deployment of user infrastructures, but what
about the sourcing of raw materials – how can we improve the mining industry and
reduce externalities? The battle against China – the challenges that countries
face to compete with such a dominant player.
