RENU ICT DIRECTORS FORUM 2024

The RENU ICT Directors Forum is a biennial event that brings together all heads
of ICT from the RENU member institutions, which include recognized universities
in the country and several other reputable organizations engaged in research and
education.

The event is scheduled to take place from 18th to 19th July 2024 at Speke Resort
Munyonyo. This year’s forum anticipates an impressive turnout, of over 150 heads
and directors of ICT from diverse organizations across Uganda.

The forum provides a platform to discuss emerging trends, challenges, and
opportunities in ICT, with a particular focus on the educational and research
sectors. Participants can expect to engage in keynote speeches, panel
discussions, workshops, and interactive sessions.


WHAT TO EXPECT

CUTTING EDGE TECHNOLOGIES

Presentations and demonstrations showcasing the latest advancements in ICT,
including Artificial Intelligence (AI), cloud computing, Internet of Things
(IoT), and big data analytics, and their applications in the educational and
research landscape.



COLLABORATIVE INITIATIVES

Opportunities for networking and forging partnerships among ICT directors,
academic institutions, government agencies, industry stakeholders, and
international organizations to drive collaborative projects and initiatives
aimed at harnessing ICT for educational excellence and research innovation.

POLICY DISCUSSIONS

Engaging in discussions on policy frameworks, regulations, and strategies needed
to leverage ICT for enhancing education quality, accessibility, and inclusivity,
as well as promoting digital literacy and skills development.





PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT

Sessions designed to enhance the technical skills, leadership capabilities, and
strategic planning acumen of ICT directors, empowering them to effectively
navigate the evolving ICT landscape and lead transformative initiatives within
their respective institutions.

Chief Executive Officer

Duncan Greaves is the Chief Executive Officer for TENET, South Africa’s Research
& Education Network. He has worked for TENET since 2003 and has been its CEO
since 2013. He has published on problems in Marxism and the theory of justice,
and on policy and conceptual aspects of the interface between information
technology and the idea of a university.

an institution that he later served variously as a Lecturer in Political
Studies, as Academic Computing Manager, and as IT Director.

UbuntuNet Alliance (Malawi)

Prof. Madara Ogot is currently the CEO at UbuntuNet Alliance for Research and
Education Networks. He has been active in development of ST&I policy in Kenya,
e.g., as a member of the Taskforce that developed bills that became the
Universities Act 2012, Technical, Industrial & Vocational Training Act, 2013,
and the Science & Technology Act, 2013, the latter providing the legal framework
for the establishment of the Kenya National Innovation Agency, the National
Research Fund, and the National Commission for Science and Technology.

Prof. Madara Ogot holds a BSE Mechanical Engineering (Princeton), PhD Mechanical
Engineering (Penn State), MBA (Rutgers), PhD Business Administration (Nairobi).
He has published widely both in Mechanical Engineering and Strategic Management.
Ogot was a faculty member in the Mech Eng Deps at Rutgers, Penn State, Nairobi.
He served as Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic Affairs at Maseno (2011–2014) and
as Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research, Innovation and Enterprise, Nairobi
(2018-2020).
