The types of cases in the ICU are mainly cardiac and respiratory, however, there is a mix of other cases and being a community hospital, there is a wide range of cases on the Medical Surgical Unit including the transfers from ICCU. The TDMH Emergency Department provides 24/7 coverage with approximately 27,000 visits per year. The hospital hosts a variety of services and specialties, including Anaesthesia, Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine, Surgery (including General Surgery, Orthopaedic Surgery and Ophthalmology,) Critical Care and Coronary Care, Continuing Care, modern diagnostic services (i.e. CT, diagnostic digital imaging, laboratory, digital mammography, cardiac testing, respiratory services, 2-D echocardiology, bone mineral densitometry, core breast biopsy, etc.), Ambulatory Clinics, Satellite Dialysis Unit, and Rehabilitation Services. These specialists must be skilled in the management of patients who have undifferentiated or multi-system disease processes and provide much needed back-up and support for our Hospitalists caring for the acutely ill patients. They must also be skilled in central line insertion, intubation and have Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Certification.
