What is this request about?
The European Union (EU) Waste Framework Directive (WFD) (2008/98/EC) was
originally implemented to protect the environment and human health by preventing
or reducing the adverse impacts of waste generation and management. The EU WFD
was updated in 2018, mandating the creation of the SCIP database (Substances of
Concern In articles, as such or in complex objects (Products)). 

This request is about providing additional information for parts/products that
contain SVHC’s above the 0.1% w/w threshold.
 

How do I start?
The only way you can currently provide the requested information to your client
is by following the personal portal link that was sent to you in our sendout.
The parts/products that you supply to your client are listed in your portal. If
the parts/products don’t contain any SVHC’s, the request will be complete after
you provide REACH SVHC declarations. If the parts/products do contain SVHC’s
above threshold, your client needs more information about the parts/products, as
they need to provide that information to the SCIP database before the
parts/products can be placed on the EU market.
 

Why is my customer asking me for this information?
Your client is asking you for this information because they need your help to
submit all currently available article-level information to the SCIP database
for all parts/products that contain SVHCs above the 0.1% w/w threshold. This
information has to be submitted to the SCIP database by January 5, 2021 before
the parts/products can be placed on the EU market.

In summary, your customer needs this information from you in order to import
their parts/products into the EU and place them on the EU market.
