Hello YMCA BC staff team,

It’s hard to believe that it’s almost fall—we’ve already accomplished so much
together this year!

On Friday, September 1st we will mark another milestone in our journey and
evolution as a unified staff team with a shared purpose and operational
structure.

You’ll remember that in late spring we announced shifts in our operational
leadership team structure to support these three key areas:
 1. Child Care
 2. Community
 3. Health, Fitness & Aquatics (HFA)

Part of that shift included adjustments to the specific roles held by Colin Reid
(Vice President, Kamloops Region), Amanda Alexander (Chief Health Equity
Officer) and Craig Sheather (Chief Operating Officer).

September 1st marks an important step for these three leaders and their teams.
Current direct reports of Amanda, Colin and Craig will begin reporting to their
new operational leader and will bring their existing team structures with them.
As previously announced, Craig will provide leadership to YBC Health, Fitness
and Aquatics (HFA) and YBC Child Care teams and Amanda will provide leadership
to YBC’s Community team across our entire service area. Colin will continue to
lead Lottery and Gaming across our area as well as lead the Building for
Tomorrow Kamloops Capital Campaign to develop a new YMCA for downtown Kamloops,
as announced in Phase 1 earlier this year.

Staff structures will evolve over the fall as we shift from a geographic to
programmatic delivery model. Conversations with the leadership of the
operational areas will add additional input to ensure any further structure
enhancements leverage the benefits of unification, and align with our YMCA BC
Strategic Plan that will be implemented in 2024-2026.
 
Any future changes to operational structures will be announced this fall, after
careful consideration and preparation. Our aim is to have all team structures
confirmed and ready to go for January 2024. On that note, I want to end by
extending thanks from our Senior Leadership Team to all the staff that used
their voice to share their feedback in our staff survey on unification. We heard
that feedback on the pace of change, and benefits of unification vary
widely. Some of the team feels we are going too slowly and wants more
clarification more quickly. Others feel that the pace of change is too much, and
suggest that we should slow down. We also heard the need for more support for
change, and more clarification on the benefits of unification as we see them. We
thank you for your candid feedback, as we take action to address it. You will
have another opportunity to provide feedback on unification when we issue the
next pulse check survey this fall.
 
Thank you all for your ongoing support and valuable contributions on our journey
as YMCA BC. I couldn’t be prouder of this team.
