   2023 #BRSR AWARD GOES TO TATA STEEL ... In my previous post I had recommended
   two companies to be the best in BRSR reporting for the year 2023 - One was
   Tata Steel and the other Hindustan unilever. Any guess why Tata Steel won the
   award ... This report had the perfect blend of Qualitative & Quantitative
   data !!! The big Challenge for Tata Steel was its involvement in one of most
   sensitive and labour & resource intensive business. Total employees and
   workers? More than 2 lacs!! And on top of it, Tata Steel disclosed the report
   on a consolidated basis. (sounds easy but doing it takes huge efforts) Tata
   Steel has a robust framework on Diversity, Inclusion & Equity. Key focus
   areas in their BRSR report: 1. Section A, Point 23 – Grievance Redressal
   Mechanism The mechanism for identifying is super transparent and adequate
   which throws light on how, when and where about the Grievances. 2. Section A,
   Point 24 – Materiality Assessment The issues identified are highly relevant
   considering the nature of their business and level of operations and also
   followed with the effective approach to deal with the risks. 3. Section B,
   BRSR Policy framework and governance structure Here, no company in India
   accomplished BRSR policy mapping like the way Tata Steel has. Listed and
   mapped more than 30 policies with the 9 principles. Further, Tata Steel
   supports, adopts and complies with multiple domestic and international
   standards, as relevant. Another major area is Specific goals and targets
   where the goals are segregated into E, S and G with proper base line and
   performance measurement. Issues pertaining to BRSR or ESG are dealt by
   various committees and not a single committee. 4. Section C (9 principles),
   this company has outperformed other companies in the following matters; 1.
   ESG training & orientation programmes for BOD/KMP/Employees/Workers/Value
   chain partners 2. Assessments on Health, Safety, working conditions, Human
   rights, Due Diligences are sufficiently and intelligently conducted 3.
   Maximum number of projects undertaken to improve resource efficiency, or
   reduce impact due to emissions 4. External Limited and Reasonable Assurance
   by PwC on various parameters 5. Significant CSR in Aspirational Districts 6.
   Assessment of Value chain partners on Environmental impacts, Human Rights and
   Working Conditions 7. Stakeholder Identification & Engagement framework is
   well structured Our Expectations from the steel giant for 2024 BRSR .. The
   ambit of assurances should be extended to all the parameters of BRSR and make
   this beautifully crafted report more credible. If Infosys was a leader in
   Corporate Governance reporting last decade; Tata Steel is the new leader for
   BRSR reporting. 👏 This is a review from the team of #esgenthusiasts at
