Daniel Kawczynski MP, Prime Minister’s Trade Envoy to Mongolia, and Mongolian and British delegations, who are doing business in Mongolia, and researchers attended the Seminar and exchanged views on the economic and business environment in Mongolia. Ambassador B.Enkhsukh received the Mongolian business delegation at the Embassy on 30 January 2023 and briefed them about relations between Mongolia and the United Kingdom and upcoming events dedicated to the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations. DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER OF MONGOLIA AMARSAIKHAN SAINBUYAN VISITED THE UNITED KINGDOM February 1, 2023 On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Mongolia and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Deputy Prime Minister of Mongolia Mr. Amarsaikhan Sainbuyan paid a working visit to the United Kingdom from 23 January to 25 January 2023. During his visit, Deputy Prime Minister S.Amarsaikhan attended a reception hosted by the Embassy of Mongolia to mark the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations with the UK and delivered opening remarks. He also attended the annual meeting of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Mongolia in the UK Parliament and spoke about Mongolia’s current political and socio-economic situation. Deputy Prime Minister S. Amarsaikhan held bilateral meetings with the Right Honourable Dominic Raab MP, Deputy Prime Minister, Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice of the UK, the Right Honourable Anne-Marie Trevelyan MP, Minister of State for Indo-Pacific at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, Mr. Daniel Kawczynski MP, UK Prime Minister’s Trade Envoy to Mongolia together with representatives from UK Export Finance as well as Mr. John Grogan, Chairman of the Mongolia-British Chamber of Commerce. He also visited the London Stock Exchange, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and Chatham House, think tank based in London. During these bilateral meetings and events, the Deputy Prime Minister held fruitful talks on a wide range of bilateral issues including possibilities of UK’s involvement in large-scale projects that are of significant importance to development of Mongolia. THE MONGOLIAN LANGUAGE COURSE WILL BE OFFERED AGAIN AT THE IMPERIAL COLLEGE January 30, 2023 Due to the initial success of the Mongolian language course the Imperial College London is offering the Mongolian language course for beginners again. The course will be taught by Dr.T.Terigele, a research associate at Mongolia and Inner Asia Studies Unit, University of Cambridge, which has extensive experience teaching Mongolian script, and language courses. She also continues teaching the Mongolian script at the SOAS University of London. The Mongolian language course aims to build on that foundation, expanding vocabulary and providing the tools with which to deal with a range of situations encountered in everyday life. For more information, please refer to the Imperial College website below: https://www.imperial.ac.uk/…/january…/mongolian-2/ BRITISH NATIONALS AWARDED WITH STATE HONOR ON THE OCCASION OF THE 60TH ANNIVERSARY OF MONGOLIA-UK DIPLOMATIC TIES January 27, 2023 On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Mongolia and the United Kingdom, His Excellency Mr.Hurelsukh Ukhnaa, President of Mongolia issued a decree on awarding Mr.Charles Hubbard and Mr. Simon Cotton with the Friendship Medal in recognition of their valuable contributions in the promotion of friendly relations and cooperation between Mongolia and the United Kingdom. The Friendship Medal, one of the highest honours of Mongolia that can be conferred on a foreigner. Charles Hubbard is Chair of the Sustainable Fibre Alliance Board, and Simon Cotton is member of the Sustainable Fibre Alliance Board, former CEO of the Scottish Cashmere Company “Johnstons of Elgin”. The SFA is a non-profit international organisation formed in 2015 to work with the extended cashmere supply chain, from herders to retailers. Charles Hubbard and Simon Cotton have greatly contributed to creating and promoting a global alliance of supply chain with a mission to ensure highest quality standards and transparency in the cashmere industry. Moreover, restoring grasslands, ensuring animals’ well-being, and securing herders’ livelihoods, “Johnstons of Elgin”, one of the three founding members of the SFA, funds the SFA programmes in Mongolia to train communities and promote sustainability. POSTAGE STAMP ISSUED TO MARK 60TH ANNIVERSARY OF MONGOLIA-UK DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS January 26, 2023 The unveiling ceremony for the postage stamp dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Mongolia and the UK was held during the anniversary reception at the Dorchester Hotel on 23 January 2023. The stamp features the first stamp of Mongolia that was issued in August 1924 depicting the Vajra, a scepter that is a religious symbol in Buddhism, and the world’s first postage stamp – the Penny Black with a profile of Queen Victoria – that was issued in 1840. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia, the Embassy of Mongolia to the UK, the Embassy of the UK to Mongolia, the Mongol Post Company and the Royal Mail contributed to the preparation and releasing the special anniversary mark. Since Mongol post’s first stamp on the UK regarding the World Championship theme was issued in 1966, the UK-related postal stamps on over 30 themes have been released. BRITISH ALL-PARTY PARLIAMENTARY GROUP FOR MONGOLIA ORGANISED AN EVENT AT WESMINSTER January 25, 2023 The All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Mongolia held a special event on 24 January 2023 at Westminster on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Mongolia and the United Kingdom. His Excellency Mr. Enkhsukh Battumur, Ambassador of Mongolia to the United Kingdom and Chairman of the Mongolia APPG Mr. James Gray MP highlighted in their opening remarks the importance of inter-parliamentary cooperation in strengthening bilateral relations between Mongolia and the United Kingdom and upcoming parliamentary visits in 2023. His Excellency Mr. Amarsaikhan Sainbuyan, Deputy Prime Minister of Mongolia and the Head of the Mongolian side to the Mongolia-UK Roundtable Meeting attended the event as a main guest and spoke about Mongolia’s socio-economic situation and the Government’s policy and actions. Members of the UK Parliament Wayne David, Judith Cummins, Tim Loughton, Catherine West, Lord Randall and Baroness Hooper and representatives from the relevant Government organizations attended the meeting. RECEPTION HELD IN LONDON TO MARK THE 60TH ANNIVERSARY OF DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS BETWEEN MONGOLIA AND THE UNITED KINGDOM January 25, 2023 The Embassy of Mongolia to the United Kingdom held a reception on Monday, 23 January 2023 to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Mongolia and the United Kingdom. HE Mr.Enkhsukh Battumur, Ambassador of Mongolia, HE Mr.Amarsaikhan Sainbuyan, Deputy Prime Minister of Mongolia, Mr.Daniel Kawczynski, UK Prime Minister’s Trade Envoy to Mongolia and Member of Parliament and Mr.Bold Baatar, Chief Executive of the Rio Tinto Copper delivered opening remarks. During the reception, the unveiling ceremony of the special postage stamp dedicated to the 60th anniversary took place. Moreover, the works of renowned Mongolian painters and photographers in Britain were exhibited. People’s Honored Artist Dolgor Ayurzana and artists of the Mongolian Grand Theatre of National Art performed Mongolian folk, modern and classic music for the audience. On 23 January 1963, the United Kingdom became the first Western country to establish diplomatic ties with Mongolia. CONCERT TO CELEBRATE THE 60TH ANNIVERSARY OF DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS BETWEEN MONGOLIA AND THE UNITED KINGDOM HELD IN LONDON January 24, 2023 The Embassy of Mongolia in the United Kingdom organized a concert on 22 January 2023 at the Theatre of the Royal Institution in London to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Mongolia and the United Kingdom. At the celebration concert, People’s Honoured Artist of Mongolia A.Dolgor, State Honored Artist, dancer J.Manduhai, State Honored Artist, long-song singer Ts.Tumenjargal, lead dancer Kh.Khashkhuu, musician B.Zorigtbaatar, G.Solongo, H.Enhbat of the Mongolian Grand Theatre of National Art, singer Ts.Sarnai of the “Sweety motion” band and singer J.Micheel performed famous Mongolian folk and modern music. In his opening remarks, HE Mr. B.Enkhsukh, Ambassador of Mongolia to the UK highlighted cultural events to be organized in Britain throughout the year to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Mongolia-UK diplomatic relations as well as political and business engagements towards strengthening bilateral ties.
