* PC * Nintendo * Features * GUIDES * Press Releases * Shop FeaturesNEWS ·2 min read PLAYSTATION 5 PRO ‘PROJECT TRINITY’ DETAILS AND RELEASE DATE It’s been a month since Xbox Chief Phil Spencer revealed in an interview that Microsoft does not have plans for a mid-gen refresh for the Xbox Series X|S. According to Spencer, Xbox hasn’t received the feedback that would warrant such a refresh and with two SKU’s already on the market from the Xbox side, that feedback isn’t at all surprising. In fact, according to Digital Foundry, the company had said during the Xbox Series S|X reveal that the Series X is already this generations Xbox ‘Pro’ offering and the company decided to launch it ahead of time. But despite Xbox’s stance on another console, where does that leave PlayStation? Well, according to my own sources, who asked to remain anonymous because they were unauthorized to speak on such details, a PlayStation 5 Pro is in development and it’s codenamed ‘Trinity’. If you think the codename has some form of familiarity, you’re right. Sony has used The Matrix codenames in the past, with the PlayStation 4 Pro under the codename ‘Neo’ and PlayStation VR under ‘Morpheus’. It’s understood that Trinity has been in development since early 2022, with sources citing that although the rumours of a canceled PlayStation 5 Pro project are always “fun to read”, Trinity has been the only project in the works for the Pro model. Despite dates being tentative, it’s understood that demo events for the PS5 Pro are already ongoing, with the majority of studios receiving development kits by late November 2023. Although the Pro’s specs were difficult to pin down, admittingly due to my lack of technological prowess, sources have stated that Trinity with have 30 WGP and 18000mts memory. As for the consoles performance targets and as to be expected, the PlayStation 5 Pro will be targeting improved and consistent FPS at 4K resolution, a new ‘performance mode’ for 8K resolution, and accelerated ray tracing. Whether or not a PlayStation 5 Pro console is desired enough in the current market remains to be seen, but as of writing, the PlayStation 5 Pro is in development and is targeting a November 2024 release date. Trinity appears to be PlayStation’s last bits of major hardware for this generation and after reporting on almost everything from the DualSense Edge Controller (via Try Hard Guides), to Project Q and PlayStation’s new wireless earbuds (via Insider Gaming), the next time you hear on a PlayStation hardware report from me will likely be on the PlayStation 6 – Which is currently targeting a 2028 release date. As mentioned on my Twitter account, I currently have no information on the PlayStation 5 Slim rumours. As reported via Insider Gaming, a new PlayStation 5 with a detachable disc drive is expected to launch later this year. It’s understood that this isn’t a slim version and is set to completely replace the existing PlayStation 5. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What is Key to Gaming? The official description of the game states that Rise of Kong is a 3rd-person action adventure game and published by GameMill Entertainment. GameMill Entertainment are primarily known for publishing games including the Nickelodeon Kart Racers series, Zombieland: Double Tap – Road Trip, and more. The description reads, “Embark on a 3rd person action adventure to avenge the death of your parents at the hands of the ultimate alpha predator: Gaw. Conquer waves of primal beasts and defeat your archenemy’s minions to become the rightful king of Skull Island. Cross the mysterious island and discover the history and secrets it hides as you come across swamps, waterfalls, jungle and caves full of skullites that give power to the flora and fauna of the island.” According to several listings, the game will be available on the Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch. The listings give the game a placeholder date of December 31, 2024, so it’s safe to say the game is unlikely to release anytime soon. Early last year, it was announced that King Kong will be receiving another movie, scheduled to release on March 15, 2024. In April 2023, Legendary released a teaser trailer revealing the film’s official title as Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.
