 4. YOUR LETTERS FOR FEB. 4, 2022

Shocking, sickening comparison I cannot imagine what Holocaust survivors and
their families must think of the buffoons protesting in Ottawa wearing the
Star of David. The yellow badge that Jews were forced to wear in
Nazi-occupied Europe symbolizes not just Jewish identity but martyrdom and
heroism. These are qualities sorely lacking in the motley crew we saw on
television each night spreading lies and hatred.

 5. SMITH: OPPORTUNITY BECKONS FOR NEXT CONSERVATIVE LEADER, WITH ALBERTA,
    QUEBEC MORE ALIGNED THAN EVER

Of all the leaders facing internal dissent, Erin O’Toole was not the first
one I expected to fall. But the caucus vote this week was decisive. Now the
Conservatives face the challenge of choosing a new leader who can win
support in Quebec, without losing support in Alberta. It’s a tall order.

 1. CHORNEY-BOOTH: CRESCENT HEIGHTS SERVES UP SMATTERING OF DIVERSE NEW
    RESTAURANTS

Like any major city, Calgary has restaurant-heavy districts all over town.
We’ve got stretches of trendy hot spots in the Beltline and Victoria Park,
eclectic pockets of eateries in Inglewood and Kensington, and strip malls
full of independent spots in Forest Lawn and Falconridge, among others. The
main drag of Crescent Heights along Centre Street north of the river has
always attracted an interesting collection of businesses thanks to its
function as a gateway to downtown, but until recently, it has never really
had a definable identity as a commercial district.

 6. 31 DAYS, 31 WAYS TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE: ADDRESSING THE ROOTS OF VULNERABILITY

Vulnerable individuals often experience a mix of challenges, which is why
integrated care is key to improving their circumstances in life and helping
them build resilience, according to CUPS. That’s why the organization spent
3,000-plus hours with people last year when taking them on board as clients
and co-ordinating their care plans. Overall, more than 9,000 Calgarians
received support from CUPS throughout the year, leading to 29,095 health
clinic visits or consultations alone. The avenues of help also included the
following: 566 people received assistance to avoid evictions, prevent
utility cut-offs and obtain other emergency housing support; 561 clients
benefited from mental health counselling; and 606 individuals and families
    accessed affordable housing.
