BOOK

The Storyteller: Tales of Life and Music Dave Grohl

So, I’ve written a book. Having entertained the idea for years, and even offered
a few questionable opportunities (“It’s a piece of cake! Just do 4 hours of
interviews, find someone else to write it, put your face on the cover, and
voila!”) I have decided to write these stories just as I have always done, in my
own hand. The joy that I have felt from chronicling these tales is not unlike
listening back to a song that I’ve recorded and can’t wait to ...

STORY

The Year of the Niu On the eve of the Year of the Niu, the animals of The Great
Race—organized by the sky ruler, Yuhuang, thousands of years ago—and their
descendants gathered for a night of festivities. The two-headed ox always felt
an unspoken foreignness. The descendants were scattered across the world, but
always returned to the starting line of The Great Race before New Year. With
Grandmother Niu, the two-headed ox stumbled towards the crowd dancing by the
river. Tails and heads all swayed. Laughter, in different depths and tones,
echoed, but was drowned out once it reached the rippling waters of the river.

Mahabodhi Temple Siddhartha Gautama, the man who would come to be revered as
Buddha, was a prince who lived a sheltered life of luxury until he left his
palace and witnessed real-world suffering. Renouncing his wealth, he became a
wandering ascetic and is said to have gained enlightenment while meditating
under a bodhi tree. A few hundred years later, around 250 BCE, Mahabodhi Temple,
or "Great Awakening Temple," was built on the site. Who initiated the
restoration of the Bodh Gaya, India, temple in the 1880s? Discuss
The British Overseas Territories At the height of its power in the late 19th
century, the British Empire had acquired about one quarter of the world's land
area, including territories with large indigenous populations in Asia and
Africa. Some colonies have since gained independence, but Britain continues to
control the administration and legislature of 14 colonies known as the British
Overseas Territories. As they are found on or near every continent, the sun
still never sets on the British Empire. What are the 14 colonies?
Aurochs The probable ancestors of modern cattle, aurochs once inhabited forests
in Northern Africa, Europe, and Southwest Asia. The enormoushaving a shoulder
height of around 6 ft (1.8 m)horned, black oxen are depicted in prehistoric cave
paintings, and the species endured until the 17th century, when the last known
aurochs died in Poland. Breeders have since tried to recreate the extinct
species, but none have yet managed to produce a genetically identical animal.
What has arisen from their efforts?

SAINT

Sts. Isaac Jogues and Rene Goupil: Saint of the Day for Tuesday, October 19,
2021 In 1642 the Huron country was in great distress. Harvests were poor,
sickness abounded, and clothing was scarce. Quebec was the only source of
supplies, and Isaac Jogues was chosen to lead an expedition. It reached its
objective safely and started back well supplied with goods for the mission, but
the Iroquois, the bitter enemies of the Hurons, and fiercest of all Indian
tribes, were on the war-path and ambushed the returning expedition. The story of
the ill-treatment and torture of the ...

WEEKLY TORAH READINGS

The Sin of Sodom Tradition says that the primary sin of the men of Sodom and
Gomorrah was their inhospitable welcome of strangers. Jewish legend embellished
the story with other tales of how badly the people of Sodom treated guests and
strangers. The Greatness of the Fathers Paul explained to the increasingly
Gentile congregations in Rome that the Jewish people remained God’s chosen
people even though they had not accepted the gospel. He said, “…from the
standpoint of God’s choice they are beloved for the sake of the fathers for the
gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable” (Romans 11:28-29). The Door in the
Ark During the decades that Noah built the ark and preached repentance, anyone
could have entered the ark. Even after the rains first began to fall, the people
still had time to enter through the door and find salvation in the ark. Where
Are You£ In the garden of Eden, humans experienced God directly. In the paradise
of Eden, human beings lived in simplicity and innocence, without sin, guilt,
shame or knowledge thereof. God was present; He was immediate; He was revealed.
He spoke with them. Walked with them. They knew His presence; they recognized
His voice. He was not hidden. He Negotiated for Forgiveness The Chasidic concept
of tzaddikism explains that the merit of a single righteous person can be
extended to others. On the basis of God’s gracious favor for one man, the entire
nation received the forgiveness of sin. The ultimate redeemer is like the first
redeemer, making atonement for the entire nation on the basis of His merit
alone. Spiritually Flabby Moses foretold that when the children of Israel
entered the land of Canaan, God would give them all the bounty of the land.
Moses also predicted that Israel's success in the land would result in apathy
toward God and a desire for materialism.
