I didn’t set out to buy this Marloe Tay Itten. I have enough watches, or so I
thought, but having once seen the striking design and colours, I was hooked.
When I saw it was 35mm, I was gaffed as well. Without wishing to labour the
point it’s a new watch for a new stage of my life and short of a pools win, I
doubt I’ll buy another “serious” watch. For the last few years the fashion has
been for large watches, 40mm base size with 38mm models as outliers for the odd
and the noodly of arm, but I’m pretty sure my first watch (a Timex, probably a
Sprite) was only 30mm and did exactly what it was supposed to do, provided I
remembered to wind it. But back to the present and this tiny thing. It’s a
unique design - as far as I know, it’s not an homage to something I can’t
afford. It’s a limited production run, so 63 watches after mine - that’s it -
you’ll have to wait for a Tay 2 Itten, which may never be produced. It was
heavily discounted for a short time, with a free strap to mark my first order.
Now back up to full price. Now that I’ve worn it for a couple of weeks, here are
my thoughts. It’s not for everyone. If you like large watches - just don’t look,
it’ll only trigger you. If you like your watches festooned with doodads and
gewgaws, see previous sentence. It doesn’t even have a date function. Just
looking at the time can lift your mood each of the main colours is repeated, so
yellow - chapter ring and sweep hand, red - hour hand and hour markers, blue -
minute hand and marker ring over a cream/off-white face divided subtly into
hourly wedges. In use the diameter of the timepiece looks like it works against
the height until you realise it’s only 10mm thick. It took a few days for that
incongruous feeling to fade and now, thanks to the highly polished case with its
very slight tapering inward, my eye has grown accustomed to the proportions. It
wasn’t enough of an issue to stop me from buying it, nor should it be a
deal-breaker, but if you are not minded to allow the time to become accustomed
to new experiences, you may find safety in convention elsewhere. It may be the
novelty of the Miyota 9039 and the smoothness of the sweep hand’s

watched; they say a watched kettle never boils, and such was my lack of interest
in the state of the nearby kettle that on one occasion I had to repeat the
operation before tea could be made. Marloe’s motto, “Time Well Spent” doing the
heavy lifting there. In conclusion, I can’t find anything about the watch I
don’t like - the price (and I got a real bargain), the design, the size, the
look, the weight, the engagement - the whole ownership experience is a simple
pleasure in so many aesthetic ways that are anything but simple to quantify.
It’s taken a while longer to write this than I expected that there may well be
none left, but if you feel that you need a small watch in your life, I can
wholeheartedly recommend the Marloe Tay as a watch that will delight and
surprise you.

When I first unboxed the watch and put on, I was not sure about it, especially
the uncommon shape (to me) on the wrist. However, after wearing for a few days,
this watch has grown on me immensely. The detail in the dial, applied hour
markers, hexagon shapes around the dial and those cross hairs at each corner all
add up to an interesting and pleasing aesthetic. The homage to Apollo 11 with
the orange roman numerals is a great touch. Being a square case, this does wear
big. However, this watch works very well once you have acclimatised to the
proportions. Overall, I am very pleased with this purchase and it certainly
draws a lot of attention. Well done Marloe. You have definitely sparked my
interest in your designs and quality of product. Now a confirmed fan of the
brand.

I didn’t set out to buy this Marloe Tay Itten. I have enough watches, or so I
thought, but having once seen the striking design and colours, I was hooked.
When I saw it was 35mm, I was gaffed as well. Without wishing to labour the
point it’s a new watch for a new stage of my life and short of a pools win, I
doubt I’ll buy another “serious” watch. For the last few years the fashion has
been for large watches, 40mm base size with 38mm models as outliers for the odd
and the noodly of arm, but I’m pretty sure my first watch (a Timex, probably a
Sprite) was only 30mm and did exactly what it was supposed to do, provided I
remembered to wind it. But back to the present and this tiny thing. It’s a
unique design - as far as I know, it’s not an homage to something I can’t
afford. It’s a limited production run, so 63 watches after mine - that’s it -
you’ll have to wait for a Tay 2 Itten, which may never be produced. It was
heavily discounted for a short time, with a free strap to mark my first order.
Now back up to full price. Now that I’ve worn it for a couple of weeks, here are
my thoughts. It’s not for everyone. If you like large watches - just don’t look,
it’ll only trigger you. If you like your watches festooned with doodads and
gewgaws, see previous sentence. It doesn’t even have a date function. Just
looking at the time can lift your mood each of the main colours is repeated, so
yellow - chapter ring and sweep hand, red - hour hand and hour markers, blue -
minute hand and marker ring over a cream/off-white face divided subtly into
hourly wedges. In use the diameter of the timepiece looks like it works against
the height until you realise it’s only 10mm thick. It took a few days for that
incongruous feeling to fade and now, thanks to the highly polished case with its
very slight tapering inward, my eye has grown accustomed to the proportions. It
wasn’t enough of an issue to stop me from buying it, nor should it be a
deal-breaker, but if you are not minded to allow the time to become accustomed
to new experiences, you may find safety in convention elsewhere. It may be the
novelty of the Miyota 9039 and the smoothness of the sweep hand’s
