   CATHOLIC RELIEF SERVICES COLLECTION

   Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston

Catholic Relief Services has long maintained a presence in Eastern Europe and
is on the ground in Ukraine offering care and support amid the hostilities
there. On the weekend of the Fourth Sunday of Lent, March 18th and 19th, all
parishes in Galveston-Houston will be taking up the annual second collection
   for Catholic Relief Services.

The annual CRS collection as an opportunity for the faithful of
Galveston-Houston to support the Church's work of bringing mercy and comfort
to people in need in Eastern Europe. Contributions to this second collection
will have a tangible effect in the lives of countless people in Ukraine.

The Catholic Relief Services Collection supports Catholic Church
organizations that carry out international relief and solidarity efforts.
Programs include relief and resettlement for victims of persecution, war, and
natural disasters; development projects to improve living conditions for the
poor; legal and support services for poor immigrants; peace and
reconciliation work for people suffering from violence; and advocacy on
   behalf of the powerless.

Sacred Heart in downtown Houston. The Mass will be livestreamed on Facebook,
   YouTube, and at www.archgh.org/live

   HOLY THURSDAY

   Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston

On Holy Thursday, the Mass of the Lord’s Supper is held in the evening and
   begins the Paschal Triduum.

This Mass commemorates the institution of the Eucharist and the priesthood,
rooted in Christ’s commands to “love one another” (Jn 15:17) and to “do this
in memory of me.” (Lk 22:19) To this end, many priests will perform the
optional ritual of the washing of feet, which imitates the example of Christ
who humbled himself to wash the feet of his disciples at the Last Supper.

At the end of this Mass, the Eucharist is carried by the priest in solemn
procession through the church until it arrives at a special place of repose
where the faithful are encouraged to spend time in adoration before the
Blessed Sacrament. Meanwhile, the altar in the church is stripped bare and
crosses are veiled or removed from the sanctuary.

   GOOD FRIDAY

   Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston

On Good Friday, the only day of the year on which the Mass is not celebrated,
the faithful instead receive Holy Communion from sacred Hosts consecrated the
   previous night.

The liturgical celebration focuses on the suffering and Death of the Lord as
the Passion narrative from the Gospel of John is proclaimed and the Holy
Cross is adored and presented before the people for veneration.

Chancery offices will be closed on Good Friday.

   EASTER SUNDAY

   Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston

Throughout Easter Sunday, the Church celebrates the Resurrection of the Lord.

The Paschal Triduum ends at sunset with the celebration of Evening Prayer,
but the paschal candle will remain prominently displayed in the sanctuary for
the next fifty days. This pillar of light will remind us that the long night
of sin and death is over and that our Lord Jesus Christ stands revealed as
the Light and Salvation of the world.
