Karina transferred to Central from the University of Puerto Rico at Rio Piedras through the Airbridge Program, which provided an opportunity for Puerto Rican students, already enrolled in college in Puerto Rico, to continue to make progress on their degrees while recovering from the hurricane. Graduating in May 2018 with a BA in Sociology and a minor in Criminal Justice, she returned to Puerto Rico for law school at Inter-American University School of Law. She has now been admitted to the Bar and employed by the Department of Justice in Puerto Rico. The Community Health Foundation awarded the project a $100,000 grant that will fund the development of a Community Health Worker (CHW) course at Central and subsequent outreach and engagement with policymakers and legislators with support from the Center for Community Engagement and Social Research (CCESR).
