Father’s Day is June 18.



Every father wants joy and happiness for his children. But my children didn’t
get to live like other children, because of the war.  

Now, I see my children getting an education and growing up in good mental
health. At the Ahlan Simsim center, they are safe, and they learn. When they
come back home, we watch the Ahlan Simsim show together. They imitate the
characters, and we act out scenes together.  

It makes me happy to see my children getting an education, to see them reassured
and comfortable, without fear. Their mindset has changed, and their lives have,
too. Ahlan Simsim is responsible for that. 

I hope Ahlan Simsim lasts a long time, for the sake of the children. The future
of our children is in your hands.

Ahlan Simsim—or “Welcome Sesame” in Arabic—is a transformational initiative from
Sesame Workshop and the International Rescue Committee that brings early
childhood development and playful learning to children affected by conflict and
crisis in the Middle East. For these children, crisis and displacement are not
temporary conditions. Many may spend their entire childhoods without access to
critical opportunities, during the most crucial time of their development. A
recent study showed that Ahlan Simsim's 11-week remote preschool program
produced improvements in children’s literacy, numeracy, and social-emotional
skills comparable to an entire year of in-person preschool! 

This is just the beginning. More than 400 million children live in areas
currently affected by violent conflict, and 35 million children have been
