🧫 the third and final visual exploration for Ganni's ‘Fabrics of The Future’
initiative. also my fave out of the 3! 🫧 a dreamlike world, an organic textured
environment where the Bou bag is a precious artifact waiting to be discovered.

I accidentally started drawing an icon set for this freelance client and
…they’re sort of fire? I never draw icons unless I absolutely have to and do not
care about them but these actually all kinda work really well

Language acts as a bridge, connecting minds, and fostering a sense of
understanding and community. This is particularly true for Bangla, a language
which has a rich history and cultural significance, spoken by hundreds of
millions worldwide. However, the effectiveness of this bridge that I am trying
to build can face challenges in typography. My research is driven by a desire to
enhance Bangla typefaces, ensuring they can truly serve their purpose in mass
communication, reaching and empowering a wider audience. The core objective of
the inquiry lies in identifying and addressing shortcomings in existing Bangla
typefaces which also lies in the visual appeal of the type. Through meticulous
research and user studies, I aim to understand the challenges faced by the
Bangla users. Beyond the practical benefits, a well-designed Bangla typeface can
foster a sense of belonging and empowerment towards the Bangla culture. When
individuals encounter information presented in a clear and visually engaging
manner, which also represents the core of Bangla, it signifies that their needs
and perspectives are valued. Ultimately, this research is about building the
bridge. It’s about ensuring that the beauty and richness of the Bangla language
are accessible through the digital medium. It’s about harnessing the power of
typography to create a more inclusive and empowering communication landscape,
where information flows freely and empowers every individual. Through this
thesis, I hope to contribute to a future where Bangla serves not just as a
language, but as a powerful tool for human connection and progress.

The outcome of this project was widely appreciated, was called ambitious,
through this project I realised that my outcome is a concoction of expressive
typography, calligraphy, street-hand lettering and my want to make it an
utilitarian typeface for mass usage. This is a homage to my grandmother Mrs.
Kalpana Gupta and my Bangla culture and language. Even though this is my first
trial, this will not be the end of Kalpana, I want to develop it further and
make an impact.
