LONG EXPOSURE PHOTOGRAPHY MEETUP

Sunday 21 January
Broad St, Old Portsmouth - 6pm - 2 Hours
Vince Thorne
If you really want to make use of the long Winter evenings as we head in Autumn,
and to add an extra flair to your photography, then long exposure photography
may be for you!

Long exposure is where we make use of very slow shutter speeds to allow as much
light into our camera as possible. The effect? Light trails, blurring, smearing,
and obscuring of moving elements with a creative (sometimes ghostly) effect. The
fundamental for night-time photography, astrological and abstract ideas.

This meet up is for all abilities whether you are an advanced photographer, or a
complete beginner, you are very welcome.

We will meet in the heart of Old Portsmouth on Spice Island to see the wandering
busy streets, view the boats in the harbour (and potentially focus on the night
sky if we have a clear night as it is a new moon phase!)

Taken as a storm was building at Hastings harbour arm, the wave you see has
bounced off the arm and is reflecting back into the harsh wind. The main issue
shooting that day was the spray which, driven by the wind, coated the lens every
few minutes. This photo is a crop that brings the scale of the wave. I still
love the original uncropped image for it's pure chaos even though it lacks a

I was doing my usual visit to Kuhlmann?s greenhouse when I spotted this potted
rose just full of buds. I purchased it and within 10 days they started opening.
This flower was shot with a Nikon D850 with a Nikkor 105mm macro. ISO: 120,

Title or Location: Along Shoreline across from Sherrill Park
I was able to set up right at sunrise, across from the Sherrill Park. I used a
graduated neutral density filter to darken the sky a bit, and a 3 stop neutral
density filter to get a slower shutter speed. I shot at F11, ISO 50, 1.6 second
exposure, Canon EOS R using the 24-105 F4 at 56mm.
