STUART GIDDENS

FOLK SINGER

Contact Stuart

Stuart Giddens is best known as the front-man for UK folk-rock band Blackbeard’s
Tea Party. As the band’s singer, melodeon player and primary songwriter since
2011, Stuart has performed at major festivals including Sidmouth Folk Festival,
Towersey Festival, Cambridge Folk Festival, Glastonbury and many more.

Now Stuart is also performing solo, putting his own spin on traditional songs,
interpreting the songs of others and showcasing his own songs. Stuart is drawn
to narrative songs with a political conscience and wry sense of humour. His own
songwriting is influenced by the likes of Leon Rosselson, Peter Bellamy and Neil
Hannon. He performs with melodeon and unaccompanied, and is suited to small,
intimate venues.

“ASTUTE, ANGRY AND COMPASSIONATE WITH ECHOES OF BOTH THE SATIRICAL BURLESQUES OF
THE 18TH CENTURY AND THE SOCIAL COMPLAINTS OF THE VICTORIAN STREET BALLADS, ALL
MADE FRESH FOR THE 21ST CENTURY. A FINE SONGWRITER AND CAPTIVATING PERFORMER.”

— Oz Hardwick

ABOUT STUART

Stuart was raised around folk music in Darlington, County Durham. He has also
been a Cotswold morris dancer since childhood. He now lives in Leeds with his
partner and young son working in the animal rights movement. Stuart believes in
the power of story-telling through song, and loves song that chronicles the
lives of real people - on the bus routes, the train lines and the daily postal
round.
