Williams, the former State of Texas Education Commissioner, was named UNT Dallas' first Distinguished Leader-In-Residence in August 2016. The only African American to hold a statewide elected executive position in Texas' history, Williams also served on the Texas Railroad Commission from 1999 to 2011. He was first appointed to the commission by then-Governor George W. Bush, but went on to win elections statewide in 2000, 2002 and 2008. She loved her public school education where she fell in love with reading at an early age, got to explore the fun of the scientific method, joined her school’s theater department, participated in her high school’s math club, learned how to study, formed lifelong friendships, and so much more. Because she felt that her hometown invested so much in her formative years, she was excited to graduate with a degree in education and invest back in her community. This led to a career in education technology, partnering with schools and educators across Texas and a renewed passion for a good story. That’s why when Tracey first heard the story of Grant Fairy, she knew she wanted to be a part of it. If Tracey’s not working on emails in her day job or working with the Grant Fairy team, you’ll find her going on a walk with her dog Millie, reading another mystery thriller, or attempting to bake the latest recipe from Instagram.
