SOFTWARE ARCHITECT AND FREELANCE UI/UX DESIGNER FROM FINLAND

Currently employed as a full time software developer at Vincit, I've been
working as a freelance developer and UI designer for over 10 years now. I
started with web design and development in 2006, when I published my first
website. Some people have called me a "hybrid", being able to work as a
developer as well as a designer, but my interests lie more in the development
side.

I occasionally post random stuff on Twitter, where I have no followers, write
articles on Medium or release some of my unpublished design stuff on Behance.

WHAT I DO

As an engineer I solve problems, be it design or code. I work with customers to
figure out what the problem is that they want me to work on. It can be as simple
as wanting a more modern look to their website, designing a better brand and
logo, or building an application that they need.

SOFTWARE DEVELOPER - VINCIT

May 2021 - Present

I stumbled on a job posting for software developers from Vincit in March of
2021, saying that they were gonna open a new office in my home town. After
multiple round of interviews I landed the position of software developer at the
company. My job title is told to be somewhat relaxed, as I will most likely be
working as developer, architect and also consultant, based on the project I'll
be picking, or one I'll be assigned to.

I find Vincit to be a fascinating company, who really appreciate their employees
continuously educating themselves, while also working on a range of meaningful
projects with modern technologies. I'll be extending this description later on
as I get to spend more time at my new job which I'm very excited about!

LEAD SOFTWARE ARCHITECT - ROPO CAPITAL

January 2018 - May 2021

I worked as a developer on a Scrum team for the first 1.5 years at Ropo, mainly
developing the company's flagship product, but also other services in AWS. I
applied for the role of Lead Software Architect during the summer of 2019, when
an in-house recruitment process for the job was opened. I presented my vision of
how we could shape the product for the future and got the position.

My new role had me leading a team of senior developers and architects, while
making architectural decisions about new services and directing the flagship
product in a somewhat new direction. I was also in charge of the development
standards and teaching people.

SOFTWARE ENGINEER & DESIGNER - FREELANCE

January 2010 - Present

Over the course of my freelance career I've worked on hundreds of project,
developing websites, applications and designing user interfaces, as well as
print work for a large number of customers.

DEVELOPER - VIRTUE OY

February 2015 - January 2018

My work consisted mainly of developing a cloud based CMS and a custom e-commerce
platform. I also worked on tailored projects using an in-house MVC framework
with PHP and JavaScript. This job required both back- and front-end experience,
but also a little bit of design skill as well.

I ended up learning a lot from my time at Virtue while designing API's and
integrations to third party services. Some of the most memorable tasks involved
creating a subscription based service inside our e-commerce platform which
relied upon Stripe to handle recurring payments. Another one was developing an
algorithm to determine the available shipping methods, and price, for any
shopping basket based on the weight, price, volume and distance of delivery.

While the company office was located in the same city, I mostly worked remotely.

ENGINEERING INTERN - KUOPIO CITY

May 2014 - September 2014

This was a summer job I applied for when I still had six months of school left.
I was meant only to help the department of public transportation with their
project that summer, of remapping some of their new bus stops, as well as making
sure their current ones are up to date. I ended up discovering their bus stop
database could be queried using SQL and created internal documentation on how to
find specific bus stops on the database based on various information and how to
upload the stop coordinates to Google Maps to generate interactive GPS maps for
workers who had to check those stops, removing paper printed ones.

I also updated the department's website, adding some features that they later
used when they went through a complete re-branding. I also worked on the design
for the next years bus schedule where we re-designed the whole book. I continued
that work the next year, when I had already taken a full time job at Virtue.

January 2013 - December 2013

I worked as a part time UI designer and software developer, mostly remotely,
during one of my school years for a small agency in Helsinki, specializing in
Wordpress websites.
