CRAWFORD'S 80TH ANNIVERSARY

Reflecting on our first 80 years of global claims management excellence


FROM HUMBLE BEGINNINGS

When, Jim Crawford, used the idea of independent milk deliveries as a spark for
the creation of Crawford & Company in 1941, little did he know how far his
concept of an independent firm providing insurers with an efficient and
cost-effective alternative to in-house adjusters would take us all.

80 years ago, Jim Crawford opened the first Crawford office in Columbus, GA, to
establish a network of highly trained adjusters.

The company was established under three founding principles, which continue to
pave the way for our future.

 * Knowledge and creativity is power

By 1946, Crawford had expanded to five regional offices across Georgia and
adopted the tagline, “Top quality, promptly” as the motivation behind our
service. In the same year, Jim Crawford created the employee training program.

This educational program taught the best and brightest adjusters, with many
insurance carriers not only seeking to employ the adjusters but also sending
their employees to Crawford for training. Even today, this program continues to
educate future adjusters from across the world.


GROWTH AND EXPANSION

Throughout the 50s and 60s, Crawford expanded its locations across the US. In
1957, the first international office was opened in London, quickly followed by
offices in Canada.

In 1968, Crawford took the next step towards growth by going public. Two hundred
twenty-five thousand shares of common stock were issued starting at just $16 per
share. By the 70s, Crawford had established itself as a leader across the claims
management industry, with a growing international presence. Crawford begins a
decade of global expansion in the 1990s by acquiring The FPE group, a part of
Sedgwick James, Graham Miller Group, Brocklehurst Group and Thomas Howell Group.
This increased Crawford’s global footprint by over 40 countries.




With an active roster of certified adjusters, the company took another step to
revolutionizing the industry with a 24/7 claims intake center, formally known as
MAYDAY. This added the capability to broaden our reach and expand services into
larger, more complex claims areas, including rehabilitation, risk management and
catastrophe services.


SPECIALIZATION AND INNOVATIONS

Over the next decade and into the 90s, Crawford continued to expand
internationally with several strategic acquisitions, along with celebrating its
50th anniversary. In 1998, Crawford became the largest loss adjusting firm in
Canada with its acquisition of Adjusters Canada Inc. The company ended the
century with the acquisition of Contractor Connection®, which sparked the model
for our managed repairs service throughout the Crawford international network.




Throughout the years, Crawford added more services with additional acquisitions
amplifying their global capability and expertise. Those included Broadspire, a
TPA and corporate risk leader, GAB Robins, a renowned UK loss adjusting company
and our second-largest acquisition, and WeGoLook, an on-demand mobile service
with a workforce of over 50,000 Lookers.


OUR NEXT 80 YEARS

In 2021, Crawford announced a new business line organizational structure, in
support of its purpose, growth strategy and envisioned future. The new structure
aligned the company to three macro businesses — Loss Adjusting, Third Party
Administration (TPA) and Platform Solutions — and positions Crawford to continue
leading the industry in innovation, service quality and expertise.
