The co-founder and CEO of Wonderlabs, Inc., Connery has been working on IoT and
smart home for many years. He loves smart home just like you and me. One night
during his reading in bed, he realized that he couldn’t turn off the bedroom

The next morning, together with the team, Connery checked all smart switches
available in the market. They realized that all these so-called smart switch are
too troublesome to install. Improper use even comes with a risk of electrical

A robot, like R2-D2 came across our mind immediately. What if we could… wait, we
should not expect it to fly a X-wing over night, right? So we started with
something simple. SwitchBot, a useful, simple and convenient bot to solve your
simple problems to press a rocker switch or button, and others will like it.

We understand how challenging it can be to control all the devices and

The Internet *will* control physical actuators in our homes, cars, factories,
and offices. This is inevitable. Other IoT startups think that this involves an
entire replacement of our existing physical infrastructure; bluntly, that is
unlikely as a first step.

Ich nutze den SwitchBot, um meinen Mac Pro einzuschalten, da dieser bei mir so
positioniert ist, dass das Einschalten recht unbequem und umständlich ist.Die
Herausforderung mit dem SwitchBot war die Befestigung, da der Mac rund ist und
eine Vertiefung im Bereich des Power-Buttons hat. Die Lösung hierfür ist eine
bisher noch provisorisch gebaute Vorrichtung, die als Schiene für ein Stäbchen
und Befestigung für den SwitchBot dient. Der SwitchBot schiebt das Stäbchen an,
das wiederum den Power-Button betätigt. Als Führung des Stäbchens dienen ein

Dass da noch keiner vorher drauf gekommen ist... Mit diesem kleinen Teil bekommt
man einfach alles Smart. Das Gerät nimmt einen den manuellen Tastendruck mit dem
Finger ab. Hat man einen Lichtschalter oder andere Schalter, die man -warum auch
immer- nicht anders smart umbauen kann, so klebt man einfach dieses kleine Teil
an. Der Hebel übernimmt dann die Funktion des Fingers. Perfekt für Technik-Fans
und faule Schweine :D

Steigt leider nach dem Setup mit dem Hinweis "failed to connect to hub" aus auch
wenn ich das Gerät direkt davor halte. Kann man nix machen, Bruchteil der
Funktion, gibt Bruchteil der Sterne bis es wieder geht... Edit: nach einigen
erfolglosen Versuchen hat der Bot den Hub ohne mein Zutun plötzlich gefunden.
Insofern funktioniert alles, dennoch lief die Installation nicht reibungslos.

Einfaches Gerät zum einfachen Schalten oder Tasten. Um ein Klimagerät zu steuern
würde der SwitchBot angeschafft und er tastet das Gerät super ein und aus. Was
eher negativ hervor sticht ist, dass man für die Einrichtung ein Konto in der
App einrichten muss. Schon wieder Daten bei einer anderen Firma. Auch der Preis
ist für ein eigentlich so einfaches Gerät meiner Meinung nach zu teuer.
Pros:
- Universell nutzbar egal ob Schalter, Taster oder auch Geräte
- Einfache Bedienung und Einrichtung
- Hochwertige Verarbeitung
- Klebepad hält auch bei 40 Grad noch wie verschraubt
- Mittels Hub auch per Sprachsteuerung oder ähnlichem nutzbar (nicht getestet)
Cons:
- Unnötiges Anlegen eines Nutzeraccounts
- Relativ hoher Preis
Alles in allem ist es ein sehr gutes Gerät, wobei ich für die beiden negativen
Punkte leider einen Stern abziehen muss. Eine Alternative hierzu gibt es ja eher
weniger.
Wer also alte und auch neue Geräte im gewissen Umfang "Smart" machen will, e
wird früher oder später nicht an einen SwitchBot vorbei kommen.

Was es nicht alles gibt, um die Wohnung noch etwas smarter zu machen.
Ergebnis vorweg:
wer nichtjedes Mal die App öffnen und dort statt am Gerät den Knopf drücken
will, kommt um die SwitchBot Bridge nicht herum!! Habe den kleinen Helfer daher
retourniert.
Für den überschaubaren Preis von knapp 30€ (in meinem Fall mit Gutschein Aktion
sogar nochmals -5€) ist der SwitchBot sehr gut verarbeitet. Batterie liegt bei
und somit ist er sofort einsatzbereit.
Die App ist mittlerweile auf deutsch verfügbar, wenn auch recht lieblos
übersetzt - noch Luft nach oben!!
Zum Grund meiner Retoure:
Ich habe schon verschiedene Systeme im Einsatz und entsprechen auch mehr als
eine Bridge. Da sich der Bot ohne dazugehörige Bridge nicht in Automationen
einbinden lässt, für mich leider kein Mehrwert. Es macht keinen Unterschied, ob
ich erst die App öffne und dort drücke oder direkt zum Gerät gehe (in meinem
Fall die Kaffeemaschine, an der morgens eh jeder Gang vorbeiführt). Da ohne
Bridge auch nur Zugriff via Bluetooth, sollte jedes zu steuernde Gerät so oder
so in Reichweite sein, um
Direkt geschaltet zu werden.
Hoffnung:
SwitchBot stellt eine native Anbindung an HomeKit in Aussicht. Wenn dies der
Fall ist, gibts nochmal eine zweite Chance.

Update 06/08/2020: My makeshift tilted pad underneath the switchbot did not
last, so I 3d printed a proper one, and fixed it back on with Mammoth Tape
double sided adhesive. Now it works better than ever, and very solidly. See
updated photo. If you need the 3d printed design, comment on this review, and
I'll find a way to share.
I got this working on a UK fused spur switch, which is harder to press, when
other reviews were not looking as promising. Read on to find out.
I actually found that the pull action was fine, its able to pull the switch up,
just not press it.
Initially I was not holding out much hope, as there were a few reviews that said
the SwitchBot was not strong enough to press a fused spur switch, which for some
reason requires more force to press. So I thought back to high school physics
days, and remembered that if the distance from the pivot point is increased,
less force is required.
So I moved the little pad with the hook loop on it more over the edge of the
switch (see photo), so that the SwitchBot could press it on a now longer edge.
(Basically you want to increase the distance between the centre of the switch,
and the point where the SwitchBot presses it down.
Now, the thing to remember here is that if you extend the edge of the switch,
then that means when the switch is pressed down, theres actually no room for the
extended edge to go, as it should technically be going through the housing of
the switch case (ok this might not make sense, but think of it as the switch
normally being flush with the housing when you press it down, so adding
something to the end, well it shouldnt work. But luckily the pad with the 3m
tape and the switch together seemed to flex a bit, so it still worked for me.
Long story short, basically: Be warned, if you extend the pad over the edge of
the switch, the switch might not completely press down, which might be a
problem, as it could mean the switch is stuck between on and off, or cause a
short or a spark etc.
In future, I might improve this by 3d printing something to go between the
surface of the switch and the hook/loop pad for the SwitchBot, which can extend
the length of the switch from the pivot whilst also curving up so that the
housing for the switch does not get in the way.
Given the issues with the lack of space for the extended pad to click properly,
do this at your own risk, theres still not a good solution. But I'm happy to
answer any questions in the comments on this review if anyone needs more info.

L'idea è fantastica ma dovrebbe essere più chiaro che uno switchbot da solo non
è compatibile con Google home o Alexa, ma è controllabile solo tramite app in
quanto non è wifi ma solo bluetooth.
Per rendere compatibile lo switchbot con gli assistenti vocali ci vuole un hub
apposito se si pone fra il router e lo switchbot. Senza questo hub non si può
controllare l'interruttore da remoto ma solo quando si è alla portata del
bluetooth

Questo switchbot che uso per accendere il PC quando sono fuori casa lo uso
accoppiato al suo SwitchBot Hub Mini, l'hub vi serve per farlo funzionare anche
in remoto quando vi trovate fuori dal raggio, funziona ossia in qualunque posto
vi troviate se avete comprato anche l'hub SwitchBot Hub Mini (dovete prenderlo a
parte, ad oggi costa 35 euro su amazon), se avete preso solo lo switch funziona
solo in bluetooth quindi qualche metro a seconda degli ostacoli che avete in
casa (muri ecc) come da raggio di un normale dispositvo bluetooth.
Veniamo a cosa troverete, vi arriva a casa in una piccola scatolina con
istruzioni striminzite, subito sembrerà una cosa poco curata ed in efetti
potrebbero migliorare il packaging e le istruzioni ma è facile da installare,
ecco le 2 modalità di accoppiamento:
1° modalità bluetooth quindi senza il suo hub che dovrete acquistare a parte:
per prima cosa accendete il bluetooth del vostro telefonino, lui lo rileva e
come un normale apparecchio bluetooth lo accoppiate, ecco fatto questo è
l'accoppiamente senza hub quindi vi funzionerà solo finchè il vostro cellulare
sarà nel raggio d'azione dello swtich.
2° modalità Wi-Fi con Hub:
accendete l'hub, registratevi sul sito che treoverete sull'hub con nome utente e
password da voi scelti, io ho usato la mia mail, l'hub cercherà la rete wi-fi di
casa, inserite la password del wi-fi di casa, ora l'hub e non il telefonino come
nel punto 1 rileverà lo swtichbot, ovviamente l'hub e lo switch non devono
essere troppo lontani dal router wifi o non si troveranno, la distanza non l'ho
provata in quanto ho tutto a distanza di pochi metri.
NOTE POSITIVE:
- la pressione è molto potete, vi consente di premere anche interuttori "duri"
- costa poco
- la plastica è di buona fattura sembra fatto bene
- le pile sono incluse (è poi una)
NOTE NEGATIVE:
- se si utilizza con l'hub e si è fuori casa a volte bisogna aggiornare l'app
2-3 volte per fargli vedere l'hub online ma ci si mettono pochi secondi, per
aggiornare intendo fare un refresh con l'apposito comando che trovate sull'app
nulla di che.
- facile da installare ma qualche istruzione un pò più dettagliata potevano
inserirla, per chi ha poca dimistichezza ci potrebbe mettere qualche minuto in

to improve leverage - which isn't something I can do.
I did however noticed when testing it that for the pressing action, the spur
switch is weaker on the "off" end, so when the bot couldn't get enough force to
turn it on by pushing, I just switch the bot to press on the "off" side, and
pull to turn on.
So perhaps spur switches are harder to turn on by design, but easy to turn off,
and you just need to inverse the On and Off function in the app.
The app is ok, but the user experience can be a bit confusing. For example, both
"password" and "mode" features are hidden under the same menu, so I couldn't
find it at first.
All in all, seems to work fine so far, will report back in a few weeks if it's
still working!

I have many smart home products including a Zigbee rotator button 30 meters down
the garden which connects to my upstairs back bedroom.
I have switchbot curtain motors in the lounge and the idea was to use this
button to switch on the pi in the spare room (networking / smart home nest)
after a power cut...
What I've found is this thing even with a cloud hub needs to be basically within
sight of the hub. The closer it is, the quicker it responds. Too far and it
times out.
So to use this, I have to have a second dedicated hub. I'd go as far as you're
gonna need a hub in each room you have a switchbot device, at the very least,
each floor and maybe at a push every other room. The range is particularly bad
to the point I'd argue they should just all come with their own hub for the room
they're going in.
I moved the hub right next to the curtains in the lounge and they're great. But
when the hub was upstairs around 10 to 15 metres away from the curtain motors it
was 90% fail, and very delayed if it worked at all.
So... The switch bot itself... The finger is a few mm deep, it won't push a deep
switch like the one on my pi but it does what it's designed to do.
Most of the issues I've faced are in relation to the Bluetooth protocol the hub
uses, ble is very limited in range and subject to interference in comparison to
Zigbee, WiFi direct or RF.
Switchbot customer services were kind enough to reach out and offer a second hub
free of charge to remediate the issue of cost to resolve the issue of needing
multiple hubs. And apparently the devices intelligently or automatically connect
to whichever hub it's in sight of so again, multiple hubs does solve the issue
if you find the devices time out. I haven't tried multiple hubs on the same
network yet, I'll update this review when I have tested this.
