<p>Game-changing? Put simply, Sequoia plans to gather up all its fund commitments for its US and European vehicles and decant them into the newly minted Sequoia Fund, which will act as an LP and redistribute capital into its
traditional venture funds while simultaneously holding onto companies after they go public.</p>
<p>With the announcement, <a href="https://www.sequoiacap.com/article/the-sequoia-fund/" target="_blank">Sequoia </a>declared that as far as its business is concerned, the venture industry's standard 10-year fund cycle is
"obsolete." It's an innovative move for sure, and one that is perhaps overdue.</p>
<p>In this respect, Switzerland's HBM Healthcare Investments evergreen structure has been visionary. If Sequoia's opinion is true, HBM was clearly ahead of its time with its evergreen structure. And Redalpine with its recently
launched Opportunity Fund. But Americans are clearly better in marketing companies/ideas etc. than the Swiss.</p>

<p>In October 2021, Swiss companies raise a total of CHF 261 million in equity investments. This was primarily driven by MindMaze's CHF 116 million growth round. This is further reflected in the charts with the canton of Vaud and the
Medtech sector showing the most amount of funding in October. ONWARD Medical made its debut in the public markets by floating its shares on the Euronext exchange in Brussels, thereby raising CHF 93 million. We further counted seven
Trade Sales and one SPAC for the month of October.</p>

<p>California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS) has issued commitments worth USD 3.9bn in total to three of its infrastructure managers and plans to lift its real assets allocation in the next fiscal year from 13% to 15%. The
USD 496bn pension fund disclosed in a meeting document that it has approved a USD 2bn commitment to the Tower Bridge Infrastructure Partners, a partnership formed in 2019 with a USD 777m portfolio value as of June 2020.</p>

<p>Almost 20 months since the onset of the pandemic, economic activity and the investment backdrop is anything but usual. Delta spread, shifting demand dynamics and logistical glitches have elongated and broadened issues on the supply
side of the economy. Supply bottlenecks have contributed to growth downgrades and major upside inflation surprises. For now, global activity is expansionary, financial conditions are easy, the growth impulse from fiscal spending is
still positive and the private sector is sitting on a mountain of excess savings – a highly unusual seat on the way out of a recession. But the backdrop is shifting. A withdrawal of Covid-era easy policies is raising questions about
implications for the economy and financial assets – all the more so given asset valuations are at the higher end of their historical range. Overall, the near term environment has turned more challenging and we have moved to a more
cautious investment stance.</p>

<p>Im dritten Quartal 2021 schloss der SPI erstmals seit über einem Jahr mit einem Minus von 2.0% unter dem Schlusskurs des Vorquartals. Der SPI notierte per Ende September 2021 aber immer noch rund 12.9% höher als der letzte Stand des
Jahres 2020. Nach einer Phase von ausgeprägtem wirtschaftlichen Aufschwung hat das Wachstum in letzter Zeit etwas an Dynamik eingebüsst. Die globale IPO-Aktivität blieb indes unverändert hoch: In Europa betrug das Emissionsvolumen bei
über 115 Börsengängen rund EUR 14 Mrd. und in Nordamerika liessen über 210 Börsengänge das Emissionsvolumen im Jahr 2021 um EUR 45 Mrd. ansteigen.</p>
<p>Mit der von Sulzer abgespaltenen medmix kam es Ende des dritten Quartals zu einem weiteren Neuzugang an der SIX Swiss Exchange. Das kürzlich lancierte neue SIX Sparks Segment für KMUs dürfte die Rahmenbedingungen für Schweizer
IPO-Kandidaten weiter verbessern und einen effizienten Zugang zum Kapitalmarkt sicherstellen. Angesichts des sich langsam schliessenden IPO-Fensters bleibt aber offen, ob es in diesem Jahr nebst dem IPO von Skan zu weiteren
Neuzugängen an der Schweizer Börse kommen wird.</p>

<p>Ab 6. Dezember 2021 können SPACs an der <a href="https://www.six-group.com/de/home.html" target="_blank">SIX Swiss Exchange</a> kotiert und gehandelt werden. Die Genehmigung aller zuständigen Behörden wurde erteilt. Der neue
Kotierungsstandard für SPACs ist auf die besonderen Eigenschaften dieser Vehikel zugeschnitten und weist gleichzeitig einen angemessenen Grad an Anlegerschutz auf.</p>

Game-changing? Put simply, Sequoia plans to gather up all its fund commitments
for its US and European vehicles and decant them into the newly minted Sequoia
Fund, which will act as an LP and redistribute capital into its traditional
venture funds while simultaneously holding onto companies after they go public.
With the announcement, Sequoia declared that as far as its business is
concerned, the venture industry's standard 10-year fund cycle is "obsolete."
It's an innovative move for sure, and one that is perhaps overdue.
In this respect, Switzerland's HBM Healthcare Investments evergreen structure
has been visionary. If Sequoia's opinion is true, HBM was clearly ahead of its
time with its evergreen structure. And Redalpine with its recently launched
Opportunity Fund. But Americans are clearly better in marketing companies/ideas
etc. than the Swiss.

NEW PUBLICATIONS: PE ACTIVITY H1 2021, EUROPEAN MARKET SENTIMENT SURVEY
Invest Europe published two new reports underlining the robust recovery in
private equity activity in the first half of 2021, as well as the strengthening
belief in the industry’s ability to contribute to a stronger economy and better
society.
1. ‘Investing in Europe: Private Equity Activity H1 2021’ provides a detailed
snapshot of private equity activity in Europe and reveals that firms invested
€57.3 billion in businesses across Europe, the highest ever six-month total.
2. ‘The insight: how Europe’s private equity industry is anchoring long-term
investors – Pan-European market sentiment survey’ reflects the momentum in
private equity activity in the first half of the year and maps the role the
industry is poised to play in the near term. Some 95% of general partners stated
they intend to increase their focus on ESG issues in the near future, and 86%
are planning to concentrate more on diversity & inclusion.

THE STARTUP FUNDING REPORT
According to the Unconventional Ventures' new report featuring Invest Europe
data, the funding gap remains largely the same even though capital deployed to
mixed founding teams increased slightly. In 2020, all-women-founded startups
raised just 0.7% of investment in the Nordics. 7.3% went to mixed-gender
founding teams, while all-men founding teams raised 92%.

MOONFARE RAISES $125M IN SERIES C LED BY INSIGHT PARTNERS TO ACCELERATE GLOBAL

Series C funding, led by New York-based global private equity and venture
capital firm Insight Partners. Moonfare will use the funding to continue to

RAZOR RAISES $125M AT A $1BN+ VALUATION
The stellar growth of our portfolio company Razor Group (Redalpine Capital IV &
Redalpine Opportunity Fund) has been exceptional. The Berlin-based company
successfully closed a $125 million Series B round in its latest equity funding
round, which includes commitments from Fortress Investment Group, 468 Capital,
Victory Park Capital, Presight Capital, Blackrock, Jebsen Capital, GFC, and
Redalpine. In turn, this pushes the company past a $1 billion valuation – within
just 14 months of operation.

BAND AWARDS: SIMONE BRUMMELHUIS, NETHERLANDS, IS "EUROPE'S FEMALE ANGEL INVESTOR
OF THE YEAR 2021"
The "Golden Aurora", the prize for the best female business angel in Europe,
will be awarded this year to a Dutch woman from Amsterdam, Simone Brummelhuis.
In addition to Brummelhuis, the European jury had three other nominees for the
final selection from a total of 18: Gloria Bäuerlein, Germany, Berlin, the
sisters Conny Hörl and Katja Ruhnke, Austria and Germany, as a tandem and Nina
Portier Reinhart, Switzerland.

SWISS VENTURE INSIGHTS - OCTOBER 2021
In October 2021, Swiss companies raise a total of CHF 261 million in equity
investments. This was primarily driven by MindMaze's CHF 116 million growth
round. This is further reflected in the charts with the canton of Vaud and the
Medtech sector showing the most amount of funding in October. ONWARD Medical
made its debut in the public markets by floating its shares on the Euronext
exchange in Brussels, thereby raising CHF 93 million. We further counted seven
Trade Sales and one SPAC for the month of October.

SIGNIFIKANT CLOSES FINANCING ROUND TO FUEL INTERNATIONAL GROWTH

CALPERS LIFTS ITS REAL ASSET ALLOCATION
California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS) has issued commitments
worth USD 3.9bn in total to three of its infrastructure managers and plans to
lift its real assets allocation in the next fiscal year from 13% to 15%. The USD
496bn pension fund disclosed in a meeting document that it has approved a USD
2bn commitment to the Tower Bridge Infrastructure Partners, a partnership formed
in 2019 with a USD 777m portfolio value as of June 2020.

BUSINESS AS (UN)USUAL
Almost 20 months since the onset of the pandemic, economic activity and the
investment backdrop is anything but usual. Delta spread, shifting demand
dynamics and logistical glitches have elongated and broadened issues on the
supply side of the economy. Supply bottlenecks have contributed to growth
downgrades and major upside inflation surprises. For now, global activity is
expansionary, financial conditions are easy, the growth impulse from fiscal
spending is still positive and the private sector is sitting on a mountain of
excess savings – a highly unusual seat on the way out of a recession. But the
backdrop is shifting. A withdrawal of Covid-era easy policies is raising
questions about implications for the economy and financial assets – all the more
so given asset valuations are at the higher end of their historical range.
Overall, the near term environment has turned more challenging and we have moved
to a more cautious investment stance.

IPO-NEWSLETTER Q3 2021
Im dritten Quartal 2021 schloss der SPI erstmals seit über einem Jahr mit einem
Minus von 2.0% unter dem Schlusskurs des Vorquartals. Der SPI notierte per Ende
September 2021 aber immer noch rund 12.9% höher als der letzte Stand des Jahres
2020. Nach einer Phase von ausgeprägtem wirtschaftlichen Aufschwung hat das
Wachstum in letzter Zeit etwas an Dynamik eingebüsst. Die globale IPO-Aktivität
blieb indes unverändert hoch: In Europa betrug das Emissionsvolumen bei über 115
Börsengängen rund EUR 14 Mrd. und in Nordamerika liessen über 210 Börsengänge
das Emissionsvolumen im Jahr 2021 um EUR 45 Mrd. ansteigen.
Mit der von Sulzer abgespaltenen medmix kam es Ende des dritten Quartals zu
einem weiteren Neuzugang an der SIX Swiss Exchange. Das kürzlich lancierte neue
SIX Sparks Segment für KMUs dürfte die Rahmenbedingungen für Schweizer
IPO-Kandidaten weiter verbessern und einen effizienten Zugang zum Kapitalmarkt
sicherstellen. Angesichts des sich langsam schliessenden IPO-Fensters bleibt
aber offen, ob es in diesem Jahr nebst dem IPO von Skan zu weiteren Neuzugängen
an der Schweizer Börse kommen wird.
