That’s it. What more is anyone really looking for in a Paddle Board? We have a Stand Up Paddle Board for every skill level. Glide was founded back in the early days of Paddle Boarding when our founders realized that traditional epoxy Stand Up Paddle Boards (you know the shiny ones with the pretty designs?) were far too fragile to adventure out on. They wanted a Paddle Board that could withstand the rigors of slow moving rivers and violent whitewater rapids without breaking in half. A Stand Up Paddle Board that can handle abuse! After much trial and error (which included paddle boards that weighed as much as 70 pounds), these mad scientists came across a coating that was used by the Department of Defense for application on our submarines to allow them glide long distances 10 percent more efficiently. The other benefit of this technology was that any object it was applied to was able to absorb 600 times the abuse that it could normally withstand while adding next to no additional weight. The first test to determine whether these boards could withstand “adventure abuse” was to convince a local trucker to drive his semi-truck over a paddle board while the pointed nose of the board was elevated. When that stand up paddle board didn’t break, Team Glide knew they had found a winning formula. Future trips down the river whitewater rapids were a raging success (pardon the pun). Glide Surface Shield In the years that followed, Glide’s rigid boards that utilize our patent pending GSS (Glide Surface Shield) have been a mainstay of SUP board rental fleets globally because renters are far more abusive to stand up paddle boards than a river could ever hope to be. Try dropping that pretty epoxy stand up paddle board in the parking lot on the way to your flat water paddle board session at an alpine lake and then let us know how much water the paddle board takes on because of the ding that was created and you will quickly understand the benefit of GSS. Those gorgeous, epoxy all around boards typically lose their luster after a season of paddle strikes and bumps from unseen rocks. One of our Glide Ambassadors was once using a competitor’s pretty, epoxy paddle board to catch waves in Hawaii when the wave caused him to fall on the board and his knee created a serious hole in the board. He had to let water drain from the paddle board for several days so it didn’t remain waterlogged before he could patch it (it still ended up a little waterlogged) and missed the opportunity to catch waves for the rest of his vacation. Pretty all around boards become pretty unsightly once you have had to patch them a few times. Recreational paddle boarding enthusiasts that don’t want to have to treat their paddle board like a Faberge egg soon became loyal customers Glide customers as well. The feedback that we get from these customers is that our boards feel different from other paddle boards they have tried. Most feel that they get better performance and more glide out of each paddle stroke on our SUPs. Hence the company name. Our fun loving factory guys created a whole video series on YouTube called “Will it Break Wednesday” where they essentially risk life and limb trying to break one of our solid boards. Home of the Finest Inflatable Paddle Board on the Market Once inflatable stand up paddle boards became the rage, we realized that we were going to need to revolutionize that market as well because most of the brands were using technology that was only a grade or two better than pool toys. After a lot of expert advice from more advanced paddlers, we introduced our O2 inflatable paddle board line in 2015. The O2 inflatable SUP line utilizes 4 layers of military grade PVC that are integrated using our cutting-edge Fusion technology. With over 33,000 reinforced drop stitches per board, Glide inflatable paddle boards can be inflated to an industry-dominating 25 PSI when properly inflated. Every square inch of a Glide inflatable SUP is pure quality. With this kind of attention to detail it is unlikely that you will ever need to use the repair kit that comes with your inflatable paddle board. Unlike most other stand-up paddle board companies, we own a factory which gives us complete quality control over our paddle boards. This means we can produce the right board for every paddler. Key Features of our Inflatable Paddle Board on the Market You can find cheaper boards out there but you will end up paying for them in the long run. Other boards don't offer the cornucopia of extra features and other accessories that a Glide inflatable SUP board comes with. They probably include an ankle leash and a SUP paddle but most inflatable SUP paddle board brands don't throw in kayak seats and carry straps with their inflatable SUP boards. They typically include a single action pump rather than a dual action pump. We offer a thicker board which means it can handle a higher weight limit and won't be prone to the "tacoing" (which makes the middle of the inflatable SUP board ride lower into the water) which is a problem for many boards out there. So you don't need to worry about the weight capacity so that you still get that stable feel with the extra weight that a child or a dog adds to the board. SUP Yoga Glide started the SUP Yoga phenomenon by designing the industry’s first yoga specific paddle board which was featured in the WanderLust festivals. Practicing yoga on a paddle board really intensifies the yoga experience and our Lotus SUP yoga board is now available as both a solid and inflatable stand up paddle board. Because the board design was approved by world class yogi's, it has a stable feel for the particular needs of yoga enthusiasts. It's a wider board that has a deck pad which is the size of a yoga mat so all yoga poses can be performed on it. All Glide paddle boards, regardless of the size of the deck area, have a deck pad made of EVA foam which is incredibly comfortable on the feet. Paddle Boards for every skill level and SUP discipline In addition to boards for SUP yoga, we also make touring boards (identified by the pointed nose), all around sup boards, fishing paddle boards (with multiple attachment points to accommodate fishing rods), race boards and whitewater SUP boards. Not your average recreational equipment As water sports enthusiasts, we understand the nuances of paddling through various waterways and with customer feedback we’re always at the white board looking for ways to take our product even further. You will also find that our customer service is truly second to none. TOP 3 TIPS TO BUYING YOUR FIRST PADDLE BOARD FUN SUP ACTIVITIES THAT EVERY PADDLE BOARDER SHOULD TRY THIS IS NOT YOUR GRANDMOTHER’S INFLATABLE PADDLE BOARD TECHNOLOGY! Most inflatable Paddle Board manufacturers are still using antiquated Inflatable Paddle Board technology that involves a single layer of PVC and a core that uses “knitted drop stitch” technology. Well, this isn’t a sweater that you are going to be paddling out into the elements where unknown obstacles lurk just below the water surface! At Glide, we have created the most cutting-edge Inflatable Paddle Board construction available on the market with our Quad Fusion Weave (QFW) Tech. Other Inflatable Paddle Board manufacturers have tried to duplicate the stiffness and durability of our Inflatable Paddle Boards but end up with a heavier, less maneuverable SUP. An inferior Inflatable Paddle Board is easy to spot because they tend to “taco” – meaning the nose and tail lift out of the water when you are paddling which makes for a very unstable SUP. To learn more about the superiority of Glide’s Inflatable Paddle Boards, check out our QFW Tech page and learn why the Inflatable Paddle Boards sold by online retailers and big box stores are more bath tub toy than a performance Inflatable Paddle Board.
