HSBC ADDS EX-JPMORGAN BANKER TO BOARD

A 45-year banking veteran and JPMorgan’s former South and Southeast Asia
chairwoman has joined HSBC’s board.

HSBC appoints Kalpana Morparia to its board as an independent non-executive
director, according to a statement, effective March 1. She will also join the
bank’s group risk committee as well as nomination and corporate governance
committee. 

Jackson Tai will step down from the board after being a member since 2016. Tai
is also a former JPMorgan banker and the ex-CEO of DBS.



45-Year Career

Morparia has over 45 years of banking experience, previously as the South and
Southeast Asia chair of JPMorgan as well as a member of its Asia executive
committee. Prior to that, she was a joint managing director at ICICI Bank,
India’s second largest lender, from 2001 to 2007. She currently serves as an
independent non-executive on the boards of Hindustan Unilever, Dr.Reddy’s
Laboratories and Philip Morris International.

«[Morparia] is a very experienced banker, with gravitas and presence. Her deep
banking expertise and experience of the Asia region, particularly in India and
Southeast Asia, will be an asset to the board as we focus on growth in those
markets under our 'Pivot to Asia’ strategy,» said HSBC chair Mark Tucker.
