USER SURVEY * We wish to thank everyone who participated in the 2023 NED User Survey (Oct 18 to Dec 4). The valuable feedback provided deepens our understanding of the evolving needs of the community as we continue to expand NED's holdings and science functionality. For further details, please visit Information » Overview » News. Before submission of your next journal article, please support Open Science and help streamline integration of data from your publications into NED by referring to Best Practices for Data Publication in the Astronomical Literature (Chen et al. 2022). NED Facilitates GW Counterpart Searches The NED gravitational wave follow-up (GWF) service is continuing to cross-match galaxies with LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA (LVK) GW events for the fourth observing run. The upper panel in the figure above shows candidate host galaxies for neutron star - black hole (NSBH) merger event LVK S230518H. Recent updates include utilizing a subset of NED galaxies with additional vetting and characterization: the Local Volume Sample (NED-LVS; Cook et al. 2023 ). Photometry from all-sky surveys (GALEX, 2MASS, and AllWISE) are used to derive physical properties and to estimate the completeness relative to expected local luminosity densities (e.g., bottom panel in Figure). See the NED-LVS webpage for more details. The NASA/IPAC Extragalactic Database (NED) is funded by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration and operated by the California Institute of Technology. * * * * About NED * Acknowledging NED * Connect with NED: * * * Copyright © 2024, California Institute of Technology back up ↑
