Year Up is a national 501(c)3 workforce development organization committed to
ensuring equitable access to economic opportunity, education, and justice for
all young adults—no matter their background, income, or zip code. Employers face
a growing need for talent while millions of talented young adults lack access to
meaningful careers. These inequities only further perpetuate the opportunity gap
that exists in our country—a gap that Year Up is determined and positioned to
close. Year Up has served more than 43,000 young adults across the United States

   From a dog daycare job to a career in project management at Exelon, Year Up
   National Capital Region alumna Blanca Gonzalez-Muñoz completely changed the
   course of her professional journey with the support of both Year Up and Year
   Up’s mission-driven talent placement firm, YUPRO Placement. The Alexandria,
   Virginia, native began her internship journey with Exelon, the nation's
   leading competitive energy provider. Since the start of the partnership in
   2009, Exelon has hosted almost 400 Year Up interns and hired more than 160
   Year Up alumni to date, providing valuable pathways to careers in the energy
   industry. During the learning and development phase on the business
   operations track, Blanca learned skills like networking, critical thinking,
   and problem-solving — which she later honed at her internship with Exelon.
   “Blanca is a strong team member, consistently learning, delivering results,
   and demonstrating our core values. I look forward to watching her continued
   professional development within our organization,” said Jennifer Shearer,
   PMP, Senior IT Manager at Exelon. When Blanca completed her internship,
   Exelon didn’t have a full-time role available. But thanks to her mentor’s
   advocacy and YUPRO Placement’s work, Exelon hired Blanca as a contractor.
   When a full-time role opened in 2022, Blanca was ready to officially launch
   her career in project management. “I see myself growing more here with
   Exelon,” Blanca said. “We can go and get our certifications, and I want to
   take advantage of that. I’ve also been assigned an intern as my mentee, and
   I’ve told her about my experience and what actions I took. Maybe she can

   Last week, Moderna welcomed more than 40 Year Up students to their
   headquarters as part of their annual volunteer week. The impactful event
   kicked off with a fireside chat with Shannon Thyme Klinger, Moderna’s Chief
   Legal Officer and President of Moderna Charitable Foundation, and Year Up
   Founder Gerald Chertavian. During the fireside chat, Gerald and Shannon
   shared some insightful advice with our students and Moderna staff members,
   who joined both in person and virtually. They both noted how a single
   conversation can launch a partnership, which was a great reminder for our
   students as they headed into networking with Moderna staff to learn more
   about their mission and work environment. Since the launch of their Moderna
   Charitable Foundation in 2022, Moderna has contributed to our work in closing
   the Opportunity Divide for young adults in this country. Thank you for your

   Thanks to the Philadelphia Eagles of the National Football League (NFL), Year
   Up is a proud recipient of the Eagles Social Justice Fund, which supports our
   work to close the Opportunity Divide. In addition to the Eagles Social
   Justice Fund’s investment in our program, the Philadelphia Eagles invited us
   to join a sneaker designing event alongside Eagles players, including Jordan
   Mailata, where some Year Up staff members and a student got the opportunity

   Year Up Chicago graduate Sigifredo H. went from being uncertain about his
   future to responding to data breaches in his present-day role at Accenture.
   Inspired by his late mother who greatly admired fields in STEM, Sigifredo
   (Sig) began the Year Up program with curiosity and an eagerness to learn.
   From expanding his Excel knowledge to learning soft skills like interviewing
   and networking, Sig gained valuable skills on the cyber security track that
   helped him succeed in his internship and full-time role at Accenture. Now,
   six years into his tenure at Accenture, Sig has received two promotions and
   currently holds the title of Lead Investigator. “Sigifredo's journey from
   Year Up to Accenture is a testament to his intelligence, dedication, core
   values, and innovative thinking,” said Rich Servillas, Cyber Incident
   Response Team Manager at Accenture. “Since joining our team, he has
   consistently delivered valued contributions, proving himself to be a rising
   star within our Information Security organization. As a lead investigator,
   Sig has not only met but exceeded our expectations every step of the way.”

   Pharmaceuticals, was spotlighted by Boston Globe Media today! The article
   discusses Reshma’s career journey and leadership, including her focus on
   diversifying Vertex’s talent pipeline by partnering with Year Up. A champion
   of the skills-first talent movement, Reshma led Vertex to revise the job
   descriptions of more than 450 positions to no longer require a four-year

   The TCS New York City Marathon is just a few weeks away! Our Board of
   Directors has been so inspired by Team Year Up’s commitment to our mission
   and running for Opportunity for All that they have created a matching
   donation challenge through race day on November 5th, giving you the chance to
   triple your impact! The more you give, the more access to opportunity you can
   help unlock for the young adults we serve. Gifts of $26 or more (representing
   the 26.2 miles our runners will take on) are matched 1:1; gifts of $262 or
   more will be double matched; and gifts of $2,620 or more will be triple

   Successor in Ellen McClain” earlier this week. In the “Bold Types” piece,
   business reporter Jon Chesto discusses the transition of our Founder, Gerald
   Chertavian, from CEO and the thought process behind appointing his successor,
   current President Ellen McClain. “McClain takes charge of an organization
   that is of a completely different scale than the one Chertavian launched in
