VILMA R. MATTHEWS, EDD, LCPC

Clinical Director Orland Park and South Holland, IL Offices Young Adult and
Adult Individual, Couple, and Family Therapy

Dr. Vilma Matthews is a counselor educator and Licensed Clinical Professional
Counselor and has been working in a counseling capacity for over 25 years. Her
clinical experiences are in premarital/marital couples’ counseling, individual
counseling, mentoring at-risk youths, and working with men and women in domestic
violence (DV) situations. She has many years of experience in working in
ministries as a counselor, mentor, and DV support group facilitator at various
churches with individuals of diverse backgrounds.

Dr. Matthews is passionate about helping hurting people who feel hopeless,
misunderstood and/or are experiencing “pains of the soul.” She is also
passionate about seeing people realize their worth to God as well as their value
and potential as citizens of the human race and, ultimately, the kingdom of God.
Her approach to counseling is from a psychodynamic perspective, which recognizes
the influences of early childhood family experiences that might be impacting
current behaviors and relationships as well as hindering the ability to move
forward and complete life tasks.

Dr. Matthews believes each individual/family is unique. Accordingly, she
incorporates a biopsychosocial (holistic) model into therapy, which recognizes
the influences of biological, psychological, and social factors that may be
contributing to difficulties. This allows Dr. Matthews to customize her
intervention techniques based on what is best suited for each individual/family
she serves. The goal is to effectively promote wellness. She believes that true
“wellness” is conceptualized based on biblical truths and principles consistent
with the Word of God.

She earned both her master’s degree in Clinical Psychology and doctorate degree
in Counselor Education and Supervision from Governors State University,
University Park, IL.

Dr. Matthews is an experienced presenter on the subject of domestic violence and
its impact on the church.

Dr. Echevarria, better known to her clients as “Dr. E,” is a bilingual

challenges. Ultimately, therapy is a place where people move forward in their
life; goals are achieved, individuals thrive, and relationships are restored.

MATTHEW A. POTTER, MED, LCPC, NCC

Lombard and Orland Park, IL Offices Child, Adolescent, and Adult Individual,
Couple, and Family Therapy

Matthew is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor working with
pre-adolescents, adolescents, adults, couples, and families. He began working in
the mental health field in 1990.

His most typical interventions are grounded in cognitive and behavioral
techniques, systemic thinking model, strength based approach and faith based
principles. His past successes include working with clients of all ages who
primarily struggle with anxiety, stress, depression, adult and childhood
ADHD/ADD symptoms, couples and family related issues and concerns.

Matthew approaches counseling from the perspective that life is a personal, and
at times, painful journey. What a person encounters in life helps to shape them.
It’s the message from these experiences, where therapy can be useful. How one
perceives and bridges the gap between what is expected and the reality of the
actual outcome is what therapy addresses and where it can be very beneficial. He
believes in the wisdom found in Romans 5:3-5 regarding one’s personal struggle
and Proverbs 4:23 to help guide oneself through their personal journeys.

Counseling for Matthew involves a partnership between a client and therapist in
facing one’s life events and finding ways to utilize faith, hope, and skills and
in overcoming and growing from pain and brokenness of spirit to healing and
wholeness.

Matthew received his BS in Psychology from the University of Illinois, Urbana
and his M.Ed. from the University of Missouri, St. Louis.
