WELCOME TO THE WANDERING SHOP!

The Wandering Shop is a Mastodon instance initially aimed at the science fiction
and fantasy community, but open to all. We want our 'local' timeline to have the
feel of a coffee shop at a good science fiction convention: tables full of
friendly conversation on a wide variety of topics.


SUPPORTING THE WANDERING SHOP

Accounts on the Wandering Shop are free for all users, but the reality is a
small collective of volunteers invests time and money in running this instance
for all our users. Single or subscription donations are much appreciated. Our

THE WANDERING SHOP CODE OF CONDUCT

We want this to be a fun, pleasant, and harassment-free experience for everyone,
regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation,
disability, physical appearance, body size, race, or religion. We do not
tolerate harassment of participants in any form.

Participants asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply
immediately. If someone asks you to leave them alone, leave them alone.


UNACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOR


THE FOLLOWING BEHAVIOR IS NOT WELCOME ANYWHERE IN THE WANDERING SHOP:

 * Offensive comments related to gender, gender identity and expression, sexual
   orientation, disability, mental illness, neuro(a)typicality, physical
   appearance, body size, race, or religion.
 * Holocaust denial and Nazi symbolism.
 * Promotion of fascist, white supremacist, or hateful ideology or symbolism,
   including in choice of user name or avatar.
 * Deliberate or persistent misgendering.
 * Threats of violence.
 * Incitement of violence towards any individual, including encouraging a person
   to commit suicide or to engage in self-harm.
 * Deliberate intimidation.
 * Publishing any individual's address, phone number, or other private
   identifying information without consent.
 * Sexual depictions of children.
 * Unwelcome sexual attention, including sharing sexual content with specific
   users without consent.
 * Gratuitous sexual images or behavior without a content warning.
 * Simulated physical contact (e.g. textual descriptions like “*hug*” or
   “*backrub*”) without consent or after a request to stop.
 * Publication of non-harassing private communication without consent.
 * Sustained disruption of discussion.
 * Continued communications with someone who's asked that you leave them alone.
 * Unwelcome comments regarding a person’s lifestyle choices and practices,
   including those related to food, health, parenting, drugs, and employment.


THE FOLLOWING BEHAVIOR IS NOT ALLOWED ON THE PUBLIC TIMELINE:

 * Graphic violent or sexual content without a content warning
 * Gratuitous advertizing or spam. It's fine to promote your work, but it
   shouldn't be the bulk of what you share.
 * Fully automated/unattended crossposting or backfilling from any other
   instance or social media site/application.


REFUSING SERVICE:

At our discretion, the admins may ban or silence someone if we believe their
presence will be disruptive or create an unpleasant or unwelcoming atmosphere,
even if they have not violated the rules of the Wandering Shop. We encourage
people to individually mute, block, and/or report accounts they don't want to
see, but at our discretion, we may take the additional step of blocking or
silencing someone instance-wide if we believe they will undermine the safe and
welcoming space we're trying to maintain, wreck the vibe, or give the admins a
headache.

If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have
any other concerns, please contact any Moderator or Admin. They'll respond as
promptly as they can.

We will respect confidentiality requests for the purpose of protecting victims
of abuse. At our discretion, we may publicly name a person about whom we’ve
received harassment complaints, or privately warn third parties about them. We
will not name harassment victims without their affirmative consent.


CONSEQUENCES

Participants asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply
immediately.

If a participant engages in harassing behavior, the admins may take any action
they deem appropriate, up to and including expulsion from the wandering shop and
identifying the participant publicly as someone about whom we've received
complaints.

Be aware that not every user or post you see in your timeline is a member
registered on The Wandering Shop. Users of The Wandering Shop itself are
expected to adhere to this Code of Conduct. Users from other instances are not
bound by our Code of Conduct, but we may silence or suspend them (thus limiting
their visibility on the shop) if they're not contributing to the welcoming and
inclusive atmosphere we wish to maintain.

This code of conduct is based on Annalee Flower Horne's Sample Slack Code of
Conduct, which is in turn based on Geek Feminism's Community Anti-Harassment
Policy.
