This post contains release details on the latest capability expansions to the Release Hub as well as integration support for Open DevOps. Got questions or need help? Comment below! We’d be more than happy to help. My name is Tamulyn Takakura and I am a Sr. Product Marketing Manager for Atlassian Open DevOps. I’m also joined by Shilpa Airi (Principal Product Manager - Open DevOps), Andrew Pankevicius (Sr Product Manager - Open DevOps), and Kim Bratek (Partnerships Marketing Manager). We’re looking forward to meeting you all. WHY CICD MATTERS CICD or continuous integration (CI) continuous deployment (CD) is a formal software engineering practice that bridges the gaps between development and operation activities with enforced automations throughout the build, test, and deployment of applications. Increased popularity in CICD has forced a shift from a traditional deployment model where all features are released at once to a progressive delivery model where features are gradually released over a period of time. Software organizations are finding that this practice leads to reduced service disruption and - if issues arose - decreased time to remediation with little impact to customers. Unfortunately, the value of CICD tapers when applications move from deploy to release. In this transition, ownership is handed off from technical teams to business teams. By tuning in to market trends, business teams assess the best time to release one or more applications. The differing criteria on deployment readiness for technical teams and release readiness for business teams can lead to premature releases or lost market opportunities. INTRODUCING DEPLOYMENT DATA WITHIN RELEASE HUB With the latest advancements in Release Hub, Open DevOps extends the value of CICD automation to the release phase, allowing technical and business teams to speak a common language to collaboratively determine release readiness. Powered by data supplied from SCM and CICD integrations, Jira automatically displays status of deployments within the Release Hub. At a glance, you can... * …enable supervisors to see where each piece of work currently sits in the SDLC context * …know when work is ready to be tested in staging or ready to be release to customers For more technical details and instructions on how to integrate your development tools with Jira Software, read https://support.atlassian.com/jira-software-cloud/docs/integrate-your-deployment-pipelines-with-jira/ For more technical details and instructions on how to use the Release Hub, read https://support.atlassian.com/jira-software-cloud/docs/use-the-release-page-to-check-the-progress-of-a-version/ EXPANDED CICD INTEGRATION SUPPORT - JENKINS AND GITHUB CICD In addition to deployment data within Release Hub, Jira Software expands its integration capabilities to include Jenkins and Github CICD. Now, cloud customers can install and configure Jenkins and/or Github CICD directly within Jira. Jenkins and Github CICD joins Jira’s robust portfolio of CICD integrations support, including Bitbucket Pipelines, Gitlab, Circle CI, Harness, JFrog, Drone, and Codefresh. By living at the center of DevOps toolchains, Jira becomes the single source of truth for developers to track applications through its end-to-end lifecycle. Jira not only orchestrates the push and pull of information between tools, but also automates workflows triggered by deployment events across tools. Customers have cited that giving their teams a common language, a common process, and a single source of truth reduces overhead and facilitates more strategic collaboration.
