OUR MOTTO

Our motto at MKDA is Live, Love & Dance. We make it our priority to ensure
quality dance training while having fun. We offer recreational classes, and we
also provide an opportunity to be part of our competitive team through
professional, industry-like auditions. Dance is an evolving art, and you can
count on MKDA for staying on top of the dance industry, because the staff makes
it a point to attend annual Dance Teacher Conventions and Workshops. From
beginner to advanced levels, from ages 3 to adult, MKDA has a class for you!!

NOVA AWARDS 2024: YOUNG LEADER RECIPIENT

Timmins’ own Melissa Kelly-Lavoie has earned top honors at the prestigious Nova
Awards 2024, taking home the Newmont Porcupine Young Leader Award. This accolade
is a testament to MKDA’s exceptional contribution to youth development through
dance.

MKDA, known for its innovative dance programs and community outreach, has been a
pillar in nurturing young talent in the Timmins area. The academy’s director,
Melissa Kelly-Lavoie, expressed her pride and gratitude, stating, “This award
recognizes our commitment to empowering young dancers and fostering a positive,
creative environment.”

MKDA’s win highlights their dedication to excellence in dance education and
their influential role in shaping future leaders.

The Melissa Kelly Dance Academy offers 2 spacious dance studios providing you
with top quality, professional dance flooring, high ceilings, 2 observation
areas, 2 change rooms, homework lounge, and smart TV’s in both studios to listen
to competition critiques. You will find us conveniently located in downtown
Timmins.

Services include: Ballet, Pointe, Tot Classes, Tap, Jazz, Hip hop, Contemporary,
Musical Theatre, Acrobatics, and Adult classes. The owner and operator, Melissa
Kelly-Lavoie, holds many certifications, and is a graduate of Canada’s National
Ballet School – Teacher Training Program (class of 2005).

adult dancer and my daughter has now been dancing at MKDA for 7 years. As a
director, Melissa does an incredible job of creating a TEAM. She and all the
teachers always show so much care, passion, enthusiasm and heart for their
students. Their own enthusiasm, passion and love of dance helps guide, bolster
and nurture our love of dance, our passion and confidence. We can’t thank them
enough! The competitive team is amazing, too. They support each other, they

Melissa and her team at MKDA are both passionate about what they do and
extremely professional. They stay current, collaborate with leaders in the dance
industry, and offer a wide variety of classes across many genres with quality
instruction. What I like most about MKDA is that it is not just a dance school,
it is a dance family where everyone is made to feel welcome. As a first-time
dance mom, I really appreciated being able to stay to watch my daughter dance,

Wanted to send you a quick note to express how thankful we are to have you and
the MKDA family a part of Laila’s village. You have built an incredible
community where our kids feel safe and supported to express themselves and grow
their artistic dancing abilities. When you thanked the parents at recital for
trusting you and the MKDA with our children, it really resonated with me and how
thankful we are to have you and the MKDA. I grew up in Timmins, but left for a
number of years. When I returned with my family in late 2021, I knew that I
wanted Laila to be a part of the MKDA community. The MKDA community is
everything I hoped it would be, and more. Thank you! Laila loves dance, loves
her teachers and is already so excited to start back up in the fall. Thank you
