WHAT IS SAFE PASSAGE?

The Safe Passage program supports students as they travel to and from school and
in the community. Safe Passage programming includes conflict resolution,
mediation services, and community relationship building to keep students safe
and improve student attendance. Safe Passage Ambassadors – trained and trusted
adults from community-based organizations – are assigned to schools and work to
build relationships with school staff, students, families, and community
members. You can spot Ambassadors in our community wearing the Safe Passage
green vest!

BACK TO SCHOOL GUIDE

As we head into this new school year, we know that sometimes families and
caregivers need support with making sure your children and teens are on the best
path forward. Whether your child needs academic support in school, social and
emotional support during out of school hours, or behavioral support at home – we
have teams to support you. Remember: it takes a village. Check out the new Back
to School Guide for more information!

PROGRAM MANAGEMENT

Starting with School Year 2023, the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Public Safety
and Justice (DMPSJ) assumes day-to-day management of the District’s Safe Passage
program. DMPSJ works closely with the Deputy Mayor for Education, other District
agencies, and community partners to ensure our youth can travel to and from
school safely. To learn more about DMPSJ, click here. Have questions about the
Safe Passage program? Email DMPSJ at safepassage@dc.gov.
