These are the BEST tongs I have ever owned. I initially purchased the 12-inch
size, but I liked it so much I then purchased the 9-inch and 16-inch size to
complete the set. These are some of my favorite kitchen tools and so I highly
recommend these tongs.I've had a lot of tongs that have warped, melted, broke,
did a poor job grasping food, etc. Part of this reason was because I was too
cheap to buy nice tongs. It took me a little while to bring myself to buy these
more expensive OXO Good Grips Tongs, but I am really glad I did.THE DESIGNThe
construction of these is a brushed stainless steel frame with (removable)
rubberized silicone inserts to give you more grip. These tongs can lock closed
via a mechanism which is a pull-push lever located on the back. The portion of
the tongs that makes contact with food is bare stainless steel. As I cook on
stainless clad cookware that is safe to use stainless utensils with, this is
exactly what I wanted (if you have non-stick cookware, certain coating types can
be damaged by these as a heads-up.) If your cookware can safely support
stainless utensils, THIS set with stainless steel heads will yield maximum
performance & durability.THE BUILD QUALITY & PERFORMANCEBeyond everything else,
these tongs are SUPER easy to grasp food with and do a fantastic job at
preventing food from slipping. Even if that food is heavy or covered in
[slippery] oil, these tongs maintain a stable grip. The finish is simple,
consistent, and functionally beneficial. Brushed stainless hides
scratch/usage/hard water markings, plus it increases stain/corrosion resistance.
The silicone inserts are tough, heat-resistant, can be removed for cleaning or
replacement, and firmly lock into place so they do not pop out randomly. The
mechanism to lock these closed is oversized & easy to use (even with
gloves/mitts on), strong as can be, and accessible (the hanging hole is
convenient.) The spring is heavy duty and after years of almost daily usage it
still shows no sign of fatigue. The hinge is also heavy-duty and has not
developed excessive lateral play. In fact, despite heavy & frequent usage, my
tongs still look and function like the day I bought them. OXO clearly spent a
lot of time with the research & development because they made a product that is
very functional and very durable.CLEANINGThese are low maintenance and do not
need special cleaning care at all. I usually clean these in the dishwasher
without removing the silicone inserts and they come out perfect every time. If
there is a lot of caked-up food on them, I sometimes clean them with a metal
polish called Bar Keeper's Friend (amazing stuff.) These tongs have held up like
a champ to countless cleaning cycles & the use of cleaning
chemicals/polishes.SIZES---WHICH SIZE???I initially purchased the 12-inch size
and it is the size I use the most. With that said, I LOVE the 16-inch for when I
am doing something in which more distance is desirable, such as if I am turning
bacon as 16 inches puts a nice distance between my hand & the scalding-hot
popping grease. And while the 9-inch is the size I use the least, it is still
great to have when I am making something in a smaller pot as that reduced form
factor makes it a little more nimble. So while I think all three sizes are very
useful, if you are only going to purchase one size, I recommend the 12-inch.SO
THIS IS AN INVESTMENT OF A QUALITY KITCHEN TOOL THAT WILL LASTSo if you are
thinking, "hey, these cost more than many other tongs I have seen," I understand
where you are coming from as I've been there myself. However, I highly recommend

gets you a product of exceptional quality: not only will these tongs last a very
long time to offset the higher purchase price, but their good functional design
makes using them more convenient (and therefore more enjoyable.) Convenience and
enjoyment can encourage cooking more often, and when cooking more often one can
save money over eating out, and arguably eat much healthier. So like other

Quality went down from my first pair of OXO tongs. My first pair had a rubber
pull-out lock. This pair has a cheap metal pull out that rusted after the first
wash. The rest of the tongs are the same. My questions is: Why change something
if it's already the best it can be? As Yogi Bera said, "If it ain't broke, don't
fix it."

Whereas these tongs look sturdy, they do not grip well. The tongs are designed
to pinch by the tips, rather than grip. Delicate items are hard to pick up and
larger items can become unsteady to hold, often sliding sideways. Unfortunately,
these tongs cannot be returned, even though I purchased them a few days ago from
Amazon. I've ordered another brand of tongs -- Pro tong isi. That is the brand I
had previously. Sadly, they broke, so I thought I would try Oxo. My Oxo products
are wonderful -- not these tongs, though.

I was looking for longer tongs for smoking, and came across these that I had
bought the 12 inch tongs 10 years ago. I noticed that I hadn't reviewed the
tongs that I bought so long ago, and thought I would add my two-cents. I have a
few set of tongs - some I like and some not so much. I also have the OXO Good
Grips 12-Inch Locking Tongs with Nylon Heads that I use in pans that can be
scratched by metal utensils. I also bought the tongs with the nylon heads 10
years ago. Both are still in excellent, like new condition, but I use them for
different things. If I am just turning foods, I tend to use the stainless steel
tongs. If I am also stirring and using a pan that can be scratched, I use the
nylon head tongs. Both sets are easy to clean and don't have the areas that food
can become embedded and difficult to get out. In comparing them, I think food is
less likely to slip out of the tongs with the stainless ones. So, if I am taking
a roast out of a pressure cooker, I would be more likely to use the stainless
steel tongs. If I am stirring and turning food in a pan that can be scratched by
metal, I use the tongs with the nylon heads. Both are excellent tools depending
on your purposes. Since both have lasted 10 years, I think that's a pretty good
testimonial. There just isn't much these days that lasts so long.

LOCK!

These tongs are supposed to lock...but they DO NOT. They were returned and the
exact same item was shipped....Tongs that DO NOT LOCK. The tongs are shown as
they look when closed...and they do not look like this at all. These are far too
long to NOT have the option to lock them. The span, when open, takes up too much
space in my utensil drawer and are unwieldy as they mingle with other small
kitchen items in that drawer. I've had to close them with a coffee bag twist-tie
in order to get them to remain relatively flat when stored!

I am not a fan of these tongs. I find that the tong angle is very limiting in
what they may be used for. The tips touch leaving the rest of the tongs with a
large amount of gap.
I would only use these for grabbing large items or a single specific item(e.g.
steak). The design is terrible for trying to serve pasta or salad. The fit and
finish and material is all top notch. A redesign of the tongs to have most of
the tong touch instead(parallel) would raise my review to 5 stars.
I ended up finding a silicone tipped Tongs that I really like which are parallel
and work great for serving.

A nice long pair of tongs.
Solid construction in stainless steel with soft silicone in the right places.
Like all of the good grips range slightly over engineered, which is not a bad
thing.
I sent them back as the item was not what I had ordered. Though if I wanted a
pair of tongs with silicone at the tips then these are the ones I would get.
I award four stars.

This is probably what other tongs aspire to be, but fall short.
It's not rocket science, this needs to pick things up time after time after
time, withstand heat, have decent/robust grip, one handed action to open and
lock, no warping. Ticks all round.
Have had a few others and several have twisted or had grippy bits fall off.
This is a solid choice.

These Oxo Good Grips Locking Tongs may cost a bit more than some but are well
made and just the right size for most kitchen jobs. The construction is
stainless steel with substantial plastic handles. The locking mechanism is easy
to operate too - you just push or pull the eyelet to open/lock the tongs and
when locked they'll fit in an average kitchen draw. The ends grip most foods
such as sausages, chicken legs etc. well and the tongs are easy to clean and
dishwasher safe.

Just the right size for turning bacon in a pan, rescuing escaped chips from a
deep-fryer, or flipping burgers on an electric "George Forman" style grill.
Rubber inserts on the handles make them non slip, and the working ends is also
coated, so the is food easy to grab and keep hold of.
The spring that opens them is strong enough to work, but not so strong it
becomes uncomfortably strong after extended use, such as a BBQ.
The hanging hook is a neat addition, as it also acts as a catch to hold them
closed in storage, reducing the space they take up.
If they do not give many years of service I will be both surprised and upset.

These are absolutely indispensable in any kitchen. They're very useful and
versatile.
They have a very firm grip no matter the size of the food you're trying to pick
up or turn over. I find them useful for spooning juices over foods as they cook.
I find the locking mechanism is very handy as they take little space in my
drawer. So easy to clean Now I know why chefs say that tongs their other hands.
