DEIB TODAY: WHERE WE STAND AND HOW WE CAN DO BETTER

Although we’ve come a long way in the area of diversity, equity, inclusion and
belonging (DEIB) in the workplace, we still have a long way to go, according to
the HR Research Institute’s latest study. 

Partly in response to the social justice movements of recent years, many
corporations have bold statements and pledged to do better in the areas of
racial and gender equality. While there has been progress, these initiatives
have not brought about the wide-scale and deep changes that many had hoped for.

In this webcast, we will discuss the findings of HR.com’s The Future of
Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging 2023 survey and the subsequent
report. We will explore research data on: 


 * success rates and maturity models related to DEI
 * the types of DEI initiatives used in today’s organizations
 * goals and barriers of DEIB initiatives in organizations
 * metrics used to measure DEIB
 * the tools that organizations use to measure pay gaps and pay equity
 * diversity and equity at leadership levels
 * the benefits of success in DEI-related areas
 * the tactics and strategies that most closely associated with successful DEI
   initiatives


In this presentation, you will gain insights into HR’s satisfaction with these
DEIB practices and how organizations are benefiting, or failing to benefit, from
them. For example, how do organizations incorporate DEIB into learning and
development (L&D) programs and which employees are included in DEIB-related
programs? 

Then we will take a deeper dive into the various initiatives that make a DEIB
program effective. How successful are initiatives? What is preventing DEIB
initiatives from being more effective?

In addition, you’ll learn more about the drivers of providing equitable pay. To
what extent are organizations actively investing in understanding the pay equity
gap?

We’ll take a look at DEIB within the leadership ranks and the different benefits
and work arrangements offered. How are women and minority leaders represented?
What benefits and work arrangements are offered to make it easier for diverse
employees?

Finally, we will also look at how organizations that excel at DEIB differ from
those that do not.

ARE YOU READY FOR THIRD WAVE DEI?

The phrase “First Wave DEI” refers the time period before May of 2022, with many
decades of slow (and unsteady) progress toward greater awareness (and in some
cases, appreciation) of the societal importance of diversity, equity and
inclusion. Race, gender and sexuality were the primary focus of DEI initiatives
during this period. In the workplace, Human Resources departments were primarily
responsible for establishing and enforcing equitable policies.

The “Second Wave DEI” period began in the wake of George Floyd’s murder where we
saw an acceleration and intensification of efforts to drive change in actions,
mindsets and results. Racial equity and justice understandably took center
stage, but sexuality and gender issues also gained momentum, particularly the
human rights of non-binary and gender-fluid individuals. The increased focus and
passion also produced an intense push-back from some individuals and groups. The
societal “conversation” (and conflict) easily spilled over into the workplace
conversation (and conflict).

“Third Wave DEI” refers to a near-future period when the focus of DEI
initiatives expands from primarily race, gender, and sexuality to encompass the
full range of human diversity. In this near-future, creating societal and
workplace cultures of belonging and inclusion will mean greater attention to
neurodiversity, non-traditional family structures as well as difference related
to cultural, language, lifestyle and life experience, work experience… the full
dimension of human diversity is almost limitless. This does not mean that the
"big three" (race, gender, sexuality) represent issues that have been resolved,
and these will still be areas of major focus when it comes to creating a truly
inclusive society/workspace. But in Wave 3, the workplace conversation/conflict
will begin to move along a different path from the societal
conversation/conflict. This webinar will focus on the challenges and
opportunities that will spring from this Third Wave of DEI.

Organizational climate (climate) is a metaphor for the way different
organizations have different psychological/social environments that are created
by their leaders, culture, policies, procedures, implementations, employee
makeup, goals, and much more. Just as differences in geographic climate result
in different influences on how people plan, behave, create expectations, and
live, organizational climate affects how people deal with an organization and
the individuals within it. The climate of an organization is defined by how most
people in an organization perceive it along various dimensions (such as DEIB).
It has a strong influence on member behaviors, beliefs, expectations, emotional
responses, opinions, and motivations. This can be true with regard to the
organization as a whole, but it can also be true with regard to important
aspects of an organization, such as inclusion.

Climate is a key driver of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging and needs
to be strategically developed to get the most out of initiatives aimed at
improving these outcomes. However, climate is a vast and multifaceted influence
in any organization. It must be understood as it relates to particular goals and
challenges in order to use it as a lever to affect positive change.

surveys can be used to help foster a diverse and inclusive workforce. The

who have yet to create a DEI plan or who are looking to revamp their current
strategy. We know that companies can get stuck or not even be sure where to
start which is why Roselle Rogers, Vice President, Diversity, Equity, and
Inclusion at Circa has created a comprehensive webinar to help you get started
or update your current DEI strategy.
 
The webinar kicks off by looking into what DEI is and isn’t within an
organization as well as an overview of the four stages of Diversity. Then we
dive into the approach to DEI planning especially when looking through the six

individuals to help them become conscious leaders. Lucile is also a Guest
Lecturer in Business Schools across Europe, lecturing on a variety of topics
such as International Business Ethics, Inclusive Leadership and Harnessing the
power of Consumers’ new behaviours.
 
From a French and North African background, and the first person in her family
to attend university, Lucile believes in the power of diverse and inclusive
teams to transform the workplace. She enjoys helping others explore the
intricacies of intersectional identities, the psychology of inclusion and
behaviours that promote authenticity and belonging. She is passionate about
creating safe and brave spaces to facilitate conversations and connecting with
people to create long-lasting relationships by bringing everyone on a change
journey. 
 
Lucile comes with a wealth of cross industry experience having worked within the
third sector, construction, legal sector and the media industry and  has a BA
(Hons) in Politics and International Relations and a MA in Human Rights Law from
the School of Oriental and African Studies in London.
