NBCU

UPDATE SUNDAY AM: NBCUniversal on Sunday confirmed that its daytime syndicated
talk show Maury will be wrapping with the current season, saying that it was a
mutual decision between the studio and veteran host Maury Povich to end the
talker made when Maury was most recently renewed in 2020 through the 2021-22
season.

“Maury and I decided two years ago that this season would be the farewell season
for the show, and while his retirement is bittersweet, we are so happy for him
to be able to spend more time on the golf course,” Tracie Wilson, EVP,
NBCUniversal Syndication Studios, said in a statement to Deadline. “Maury is a
television icon, a pop culture legend and we couldn’t be more proud to have been
a part of his incredible career.”

SEASON

Povich traced the end of his long-running show further back.

“Six years ago when I was ready to retire, my the NBCUniversal family asked me
to continue the show,” he said. “Even though I told them I was ready for
assisted living, out of loyalty to NBCUniversal and my more than 100 staff and
crew members, Tracie Wilson and I agreed to one more deal. I’m so proud of my
relationship with NBCUniversal and all those who worked on the Maury show but as
I occasionally tell my guests on Maury, ‘Enough, already!'”

PREVIOUS SATURDAY: Another syndicated daytime talk show is coming to an end:
NBCUniversal’s veteran tabloid talker Maury, hosted and executive produced by
Maury Povich. The show will end original productions at the end of this season,
when Povich plans to retire. Original episodes will air through September, after
which repeats of Maury will continue to air in syndication.

This is the second NBCUniversal syndicated daytime program to call it quits this
spring, joining Judge Jerry. Other syndicated daytime talk shows that recently
got canceled include Sony TV’s The Good Dish as well as Debmar-Mercury’s Nick
Cannon and The Wendy Williams Show, the latter to be replaced by a new talker,
Sherri.

The Maury Povich Show was launched in 1991 by Paramount Domestic Television. It
shortened its name to Maury in the mid-1990s. In 1998, Studio USA took over the
program. The company was subsequently acquired by NBCUniversal.

Maury, whose cancelation was first reported by Broadcasting & Cable, is
executive produced by Paul Faulhaber. It is distributed in national syndication
by Syndication Studios and produced by Stamford Media Center Productions.

Producing conflict talk is a 24 hour, no-stop, high stress, thankless job.
I’m sorry all those people will be out of a job (Some I assume will go to
Karamo). But I’m also glad they can stop working for a minute and clear their
minds of all the stress that goes into making a show like that. If you see
someone with “Maury” or another conflict daytime show on their resume, hire
them. They can and will do anything. Good luck to everyone.

Right!? Lol that’s about all that show was.

It’s a big piece of the 1990s coming to an end. Tabloid Talk Shows we’re at
their height in the 90s and the fact that he’s been able to maintain up to
     2022 is absolutely amazing

Maury is the O.G. of all the talk show and court shows that came up in that
era that Maury started and he was the best talk show and D.N.A. show that
ever came on t.v. so I’m bumbed out about this news but Maury will be just
fine. So Maury you are the t.v. O.G. I will miss your and your show. Best

Maury and Jerry both premiered in 1991 so I don’t see how one copied
the other. It’s more appropriate to say that they both patterned
themselvws after GERALDO and MORTON DOWNEY JR. both of whom began trash
         talk in 1987
