BRIDGWATER BLAKE MUSEUM BRIDGWATER’S HERITAGE From Stone Age to Modern Age, there’s something for everyone. Blake Museum is a 16th century house located in the heart of Bridgwater, a historic market town and port, first mentioned as Brugie in the Domesday Book of 1086. The Museum was first opened to the public in 1926 and it is said that Robert Blake, the town's most famous citizen, was born in the house in 1598. With the collections covering Bridgwater and the surrounding areas, we have fascinating displays waiting for you to discover. Discover Bridgwater’s Heritage The Friends of Blake Museum was formed to promote and support the improvement of the Blake Museum. The Friends have played a vital part in running the museum and caring for the collection. Under the guidance of the Curator, the volunteers carry out numerous tasks including cleaning, visitor reception, manning the shop, cataloguing, research, transcribing, assisting with school visits and assisting with displays. The Friends are always keen to welcome new volunteers as Custodians, and in other roles. Please contact us to arrange an informal chat about what is available.
