CAN I USE IT ON MULTIPLE DEVICES?

You can use the extension on your desktop, laptop (Mac or Windows) or Chrome
book.

The extension is compatible with other Chromium based browsers as well, such as
Brave and Edge.
It can not run on Android or IOS.

WHAT IS THE SQUARE BOX ICON IN THE BROWSER TAB HEADER?

This is how Chrome Edge visualizes that the audio of the tab is being captured.
It says 'This tabs content is being shared' to inform you. When you open the
extension and change the pitch the extension uses tab capture in order to
process the audio contents of the tab.

WHY DO YOU NEED READ PERMISSIONS FOR THE WEBSITES I VISIT? WHAT ABOUT PRIVACY?

The permissions are necessary to capture the audio for pitch shift processing
and connect to the video players on the websites. This only happens when you
launch the extension. No worries, we don't collect your data, browser history or
audio and all your data is kept locally.
Transpose keeps track of a history list which is saved only locally, or at your
Google Account and only accessible by you. We do use Google Analytics for usage
and issue tracking. Check the privacy statement for more info.

IT DOESN'T SEEM TO WORK / THE AUDIO STOPS

 * Close or refresh any open tab windows with the (YouTube) video you want to
   control.
   This is sometimes needed first installation.
 * Not all media will work (only html5 videos). Some sites may block control of
   audio usage. Youtube and Vimeo should work!
 * There may be conflicting other extensions using audio tab capture as well.
   Check your extensions at chrome://extensions (type this in your browser
   address bar) and disable some. Close the video page first and see if it
   helps.
 * Uninstall the extension and reinstall it. Then close all tabs, exit Chrome,
   and try again.
 * Make sure you are up to date, check if you have the latest version of Chrome
   and this extension
 * If the audio cuts out when using this extension, check if this is also the
   case for other extensions using tab audio capture. If so, it may be a general

WHAT DOES 'NO MEDIA' - 'NO CONNECTION' - 'PITCH SHIFT ONLY' - 'COULD NOT CAPTURE
AUDIO' MEAN?

 * No media:
   There is no html5 video player found on the site. Navigate to a video, e.g.
   from Youtube first, and than launch the extension.
   If that doesn't work try the tips below:
 * No connection:
   The extension popup could not connect to the website:
   * It could be it is not allowed to connect to this page, like Chrome's home
     page tab
   * Close or refresh any open tab windows with the (YouTube) video you want to
     control.
     This is sometimes needed first installation.
   * Not all media will work (only html5 videos). Some sites may block control
     of audio usage. Youtube and Vimeo should work!
   * There may be conflicting other extensions using audio tab capture as well.

   On some pages, it is not allowed to connect to the content.
 * Pitch shift only mode:
   If there is no HTML5 videoplayer in the content the functionality is limited
   to transpose and pitch. It is not possible to change the speed, use the loop
   feature. The settings will not be added to the history list.
   But, you can pitch all audio in the browser tab. As an example, you can use
   it for the Spotify web player: https://open.spotify.com
 * Make sure you are up to date, check if you have the latest version of Chrome
   (70.x and up) and this extension

CAN I USE IT FOR SPOTIFY?

Yes, you can use transpose and pitch, but there are limitations:
 * You cannot use it for the Spotify application, but for the equivalent online
   version which runs in the browser: https://open.spotify.com.
 * It is not possible to control the speed, loop and transport controls.
 * Settings will not be added to the history list.

CAN I TRANSPOSE A LOCAL AUDIO FILE?

Yes: go to the settings page by clicking on the '3 dots menu icon' in the top
right of the extension and click 'Play File'. This opens the local file player,
you can browse for an audio file on your device and use the extension to control
it.
You can use it for all kinds of audio formats, such as mp3 or wav but it also
works with mp4 video files (audio only).

CAN I SAVE THE AUDIO TO A FILE?

No, that is not possible. It is not allowed by Terms of Service for most sites,
like YouTube to use an extension for that. But of course there is external
software that can do the trick. Check out Audacity, an open source audio editing
solution for Windows and Mac.

CAN I USE IT WITH CHROMECAST?

Yes that's possible, but only if you cast the desktop. See

I HEAR GLITCHES, STUTTERING OR DISTORTION.

Unfortunately audio processing is not highly optimized for browser extensions
and performance depends on your device.
If you do encounter glitches, try to close other tabs and applications, and
disable other extensions.

Please keep in mind this is an aid for practicing, not a studio tool :)

THERE IS A DELAY BETWEEN AUDIO AND VIDEO

That is normal when using the high quality pitch algorithm: the audio is
buffered for processing (200 to 400 milliseconds). You can set it temporarily
back to low quality in the settings you need it in sync.

HOW TO HIDE THE BROWSER TITLE BAR IN FULL SCREEN

When you activate the extension, tab capture is activated for that browser tab.
As a security measurement by the browser, the title bar is still visibile in
full screen mode.
There are several workarounds:

 * Open a new tab
 * Stop audiocapture (button in the settings of the extension)
 * Manually set the browser in Full Screen (F11, or browser zoom settings)
