WARRANTIES AND CONSUMER RIGHTS

Warranties can’t replace, change or take away a consumer’s basic rights. These
basic rights can last longer than a warranty given by a business. Find out more
about your consumer rights and warranties.


ENVIRONMENTAL AND SUSTAINABILITY CLAIMS

A growing number of businesses are making environmental claims about their
products, services, and operations. Some claims don’t reflect the true
environmental impact of a business, or the products or services it supplies.


BANK CUSTOMERS MISSING OUT ON EARNING MORE INTEREST FROM SAVINGS

Our Retail deposits inquiry has found that consumers are missing out on earning
higher interest on their savings. This is due to ongoing barriers to searching
for, and switching between, retail deposit products. 


COMPLIANCE AND ENFORCEMENT PRIORITIES 2024-25

ACCC Chair, Gina Cass-Gottlieb has announced the compliance and enforcement
priorities for the year ahead. 


AUSTRALIA POST PRICE INCREASE

We assessed Australia Post’s proposed price increase as part of our regulatory
role. We don’t object to the 25% increase proposed to take effect in April this
year.

UNFAIR CONTRACT TERMS

Changes to the law on unfair contract terms in consumer and small business
contracts came into effect in November 2023.

We are working to help consumers and business understand the law around unfair
contract terms and what the changes mean.


GREENWASHING AND ENVIRONMENTAL CLAIMS

Consumers are now, more than ever, making purchasing decisions on environmental
grounds.

We'll be investigating a number of businesses for making potentially false or
misleading environmental claims.


DIGITAL PLATFORMS

The expansion of digital platforms in Australia has brought benefits, but also
created risks and harms that our current consumer and competition laws are not
always able to address. We're examining these issues as part of inquiries we
conduct and law enforcement cases.
