Members of the Syrian Electronic Army have once again hijacked the website and
social media accounts of an organization they accuse of spreading lies about the
situation in Syria.

On this occasion, the target is the Human Rights Watch (HRW), an independent
organization that dedicates its efforts to defending human rights.

According to the hackers, they’ve targeted HRW after the organization published
a story about Syria expanding the use of cluster munitions, a banned weapon.

“We have repeatedly warned you of our anger,” the hackers said after defacing
the news section of HRW’s website.

In addition to the website, the Syrian Electronic Army has also hijacked the
organization’s official Twitter account (@hrw).

HackRead reports that the Twitter account of HRW Indonesia and the one of Hanan
Salah, a HRW representative from Lybia, have also been hacked.

Currently, the main Human Rights Watch Twitter account has been restored, but
the other two still display the messages published by the hackers.

HRW hasn’t made any statements regarding the incident, except for a tweet which
reads: “Apologies for the previous tweet, sent from an unauthorized user, #Syria
clusters report is here [link].”
