ABOUT THE SERIES

SCMP Conversations: Future of Work is a month-long series of events focuses on
convening policymakers, business leaders, technology visionaries, people
managers, and disciplinary experts in action-oriented discussion to help Hong
Kong to prepare its workforce for a post-pandemic new norm of work.

UPCOMING VIRTUAL FORUMS

#1. Chief TRANSFORMATION Officer Day

Wed, May 18

Company CEOs and board members are focused on the future of work now more than
ever. When it comes to change management the success or failure of a
transformation effort is reliant, in large measure, upon the abilities of the
person leading it — in many cases, this falls under the purview of Chief
Transformation Officers (CTOs). Particularly effective within the context of
large and mid-sized organisations, CTO’s are charged with the daunting task of
facilitating change management in the form of commercialising new ideas and
spearhead growth initiatives by creating trust, embodying an organisation’s core
values, effectively motivating and communicating and knowing how to get the work
done. Put simply, they could be labelled as synergy creators. This set of panel
discussions will take a deep dive into the most effective strategies today’s
CTOs are executing in order to achieve these goals and more.

#2. Chief HR Officer Day

Thur, May 26

The role of chief human resource officer (CHRO) is a key cog in any company —
and the purview of the role’s responsibilities is continuously expanding.
Today’s CHROs must support an organisation’s overall strategic direction across
myriad realms, from recruiting, compensation, talent and performance management,
to succession planning, training, development and more.

In what ways are CHROs effectively innovating and experimenting with workplace
transformations that offer a bouquet of options for employees? How are these
leaders taking charge in establishing a company culture that is healthy and
diverse? What does the future of work look like in the realm of work-life
balance and what role do CHROs play in this? What needs to be done to ensure a
continuously learning workforce becomes the norm?

#3. Chief MARKETING Officer Day

Thur, June 2

For chief marketing officers (CMOs), thinking about the future of work is a
consistent necessity. Top of mind is the constant battle to stay on top of the
latest trends in how to optimise massive amounts of data and analytics, while
maintaining a competitive edge in customer experience. Meanwhile, intense
competition for marketing talent is a constant concern, as the evolving nature
of the industry’s trends coincide with that of its potential opportunities.
Salaries aside, CMOs who are unable to stay agile and flexible when it comes to
employee incentives and offerings are likely to lose or miss out on the top
talent in the market.

How are CMOs using the latest technologies (martech) to ensure they are staying
on top- or even ahead of industry trends? What are the latest trends that are
meaningfully driving revenue growth? What can CMOs do to ensure they’re not only
building effective teams, but retaining employees amidst a war for talent in the
market? What does the future of work look like amid marketing teams as hybrid
working becomes the norm?

#4. Chief FINANCIAL Officer Day

Thur, June 9

When it comes to the future of work, chief financial officers (CFOs) are set to
be increasingly at the forefront of innovating and defining organisational
change — particularly as it pertains to investing in employee training and
technology, but also even in setting a businesses organisation and cultural
priorities. Of particular note, CFOs are likely to lead most organisations in
their ESG efforts, an area which is already one with intense competition for
talent and is likely to only increase in its size and scope in the coming
years.

How has the scope of talent and human capital changed since the pandemic and
what does this mean for CFOs thinking about the future of work? How have hybrid
working models changed the way CFOs approach their role? How can finance teams
act as a driver to workplace transformation that is happening right now? When it
comes to ESG initiatives, what is the promise vs. the reality and what does it
take to establish a team that can effectively achieve an organisation’s ESG
pursuits?
