Summer, at least here in the US, tends to feel like starting anew, or a chance
to chill after a long cold winter. Memorial Day has become the unofficial start
of summer, with people taking the long weekend to relax (hopefully) in the sun.
As is often the case, it's also a shopping occasion. If your current bed no
longer serves you well, these Memorial Day mattress sales on all of our
favorites include plenty of options at a range of prices.

Check out our Best Mattresses guide for our advice and more details. All the
prices shown here are for queen-size mattresses.

Special offer for Gear readers: Get a 1-Year Subscription to WIRED for $5 ($25
off). This includes unlimited access to WIRED.com and our print magazine (if
you'd like). Subscriptions help fund the work we do every day.

Deals on Our Top Mattress Picks

Helix Midnight Luxe

Photograph: Helix
★ Our Top Pick—Helix Midnight Luxe Hybrid Mattress for $1,799 ($250 off)—Enter
MDWSALE250 at Checkout

Enter MDWSALE250 at checkout to see this price, you'll also get two free
pillows. We've seen this mattress hit $1,699, but the base price has risen a few
times which is disappointing. However, the Helix Midnight Luxe Hybrid has been
our top mattress for several years. It has a plush cushion top, cooling gel
foam, and is medium-firm which should appeal to side, back, and stomach
sleepers. Its spings are firmer in the areas that need more support, like where
your lower back rests. If you're getting another size, click the “view offer”
button on the top of Helix's site to determine the right code for your total.

★ Best Under $1,000—Allswell Supreme Hybrid Mattress for $799 ($200 off)—Use
Code MEMDAY20

Enter code MEMDAY20 at checkout to see the discount. WIRED reviews director
Jeffrey Van Camp says the Allsweel Supreme feels as comfortable as a $2,000
mattress. Of all the mattresses he tested, this one hung around, and it was the
only bed his pregnant partner wanted to sleep on during her third trimester
because of its softness and side-sleeping support. It doesn't have the best edge
support, but it's still a great choice.

Allswell Hybrid

Photograph: Allswell
★ Best Bargain—Allswell Hybrid Mattress for $359 ($90 off)—Use Code MEMDAY20

Enter code MEMDAY20 at checkout to see the discount. This Allswell doesn't feel
as cheap as its price might indicate. It's a hybrid too (our mattress guide
explains what that means), which you rarely see at this price. It's got a
medium-firm feel and is ribbed with tubing for better edge support. Whether you
need one for yourself or have a guest room that needs outfitting, you can't go
wrong here. If you have a little bit more to spend, Allswell has a great Luxe
Hyrbid version for $559 ($140 off), but the Supreme above is its best.

★ Most Sustainable: Avocado Green Organic Hybrid Mattress for $1,529 ($170
off)—Use Code SAVE10

WIRED senior writer Scott Gilbertson tried a handful of sustainably made
mattresses, and the Avocado Green has remained his top pick. It's the only
mattress he and his wife can agree on, since he prefers a firm bed and she likes
a soft one. This is both, without being too much of either. It's made from
organic latex, organic wool, and organic cotton. It is also nontoxic, containing
no polyurethane, fire retardants, memory foam, or chemical adhesives. Avocado
owns its own sheep farms and latex farm. The mattress’s price has jumped since
last year.

Other Sustainable Mattress Deals

Birch Natural

Photograph: Birch
Birch Natural Mattress for $1,399 ($400 off)—Use Code MDSALE400

Enter code MDSALE400 at checkout to see the discount, which also comes with two
pillows. The Avocado mattress above is our favorite of the organic mattresses we
tried, but Birch's Natural is a solid alternative for side sleepers. It's made
by Helix, the company that makes our overall top mattress, and it has also risen
in price (potentially stemming from a mix of global supply chain issues and
inflation). The Birch is made of natural latex and wool and is free of
polyurethane-based foams and chemicals. WIRED writer Louryn Strampe says a
visible outline formed where she and her partner slept each night, but it didn't
pose an issue.

★ Best for Kids: My Green Mattress Kiwi Children’s (Twin) for $637 ($112
off)—Use Code REMEMBER

Enter code REMEMBER at checkout to see the discount. If your small child needs a
new bed, you can save some money by getting this twin hybrid. It's made with
certified organic cotton, wool, and latex. It's firm, but the WIRED kids who
tried it loved it. For around $125 more, you can get the two-sided version to
extend its life against rowdy kids.

Awara Natural Hybrid Mattress for $1,099 ($799 off)

This deal comes with two pillows, a sheet set, and a mattress cover. The Birch
mattress is more supportive, but Awara's hybrid is more affordable. It's
supportive and bouncy, but you might want to get a topper (we have options
below) to smooth out the rigid edges. This mattress had almost no odor when it
was unwrapped, which is uncommon in mattresses.

Other Hybrid Mattress Deals

Casper Original Hybrid

Photograph: Casper
Our Runner-Up: Casper Hybrid Mattress for $1,441 ($254 off)

You've probably heard of Casper, given that its first foam mattress made the
bed-in-a-box concept popular. The hybrid is our favorite choice from the
company, with a firmness level that's a good balance between soft and
supportive, and it's more breathable than the all-foam. If no other mattress
appeals, get this one. WIRED reviews director Jeffrey Van Camp is currently
testing Casper's Wave Hybrid with the additional Snow cooling technology, which
is discounted to $2,715 ($680 off). He doesn't notice significant cooling
compared to the Original Hybrid, but it does offer more support. You can save
$400 by skipping the Snow add-on.

WinkBed Hybrid Mattress for $1,499 ($300 off)—Use Code SLEEP300

Enter code SLEEP300 at checkout to see the discount. WIRED reviews editor Julian
Chokkattu is testing this bed now. He says the Tencel cover adds a
pillowy-softness to the very top, but it still feels relatively firm. Edge
support is pretty good too, and he's noticed it doesn't disturb his partner when
he gets into bed later in the night. He's a stomach and back sleeper, while his
partner is a side sleeper, and the WinkBed has felt comfy in all of those
positions. These mattresses are handmade to order in the US.

Leesa Hybrid Mattress for $1,499 ($400 off)

This deal comes with two pillows. Leesa's Hybrid Mattress is another of our
favorites. It's cheaper than the Helix Luxe, though still pricey. That said,
this sale reduces another $100 from what we saw last year, putting it at one of
the lowest prices we've tracked. The Leesa Hybrid felt cool and cozy in our
testing, just as a bed should.

Brooklyn Bedding Signature

Photograph: Brooklyn Bedding
Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid Mattress for $937 ($312 off)—Use Code
MEMORIAL25

Enter code MEMORIAL25 at checkout to see the discount. If you love a firm bed,
Brooklyn Bedding's Signature Hybrid runs very firm. WIRED reviews director
Jeffrey Van Camp says he'd opt for the medium version next time to get something
just a tad softer. We saw this mattress drop to $787 last year. Not firm enough?
Brooklyn Bedding sells the Plank Mattress too, which lives up to its name.

Saatva Classic Hybrid Mattress for $1,495 ($200 off)

This mattress also went up in price; last Memorial Day it was down to $1,299
with the same discount. It's still a decent hybrid mattress—don't let the word
classic fool you. There are three firmness levels and two thickness options. You
also get white glove delivery, and the brand will haul away your old mattress.
That's a luxury.

DreamCloud Luxury Hybrid for $999 ($699 off)

This deal comes with two pillows, a sheet set, and a mattress cover.
DreamCloud's Hybrid has a thick, luxurious pillow top that's similar to the
Helix Midnight Luxe and Allswell Supreme.

Foam Mattress Deals

Layla Two-Sided Foam Mattress

Photograph: Layla
Layla Two-Sided Foam Mattress for $949 ($150 off)

This deal comes with two pillows. Most mattress companies have generous return
policies, but no one actually wants to haul something of that size in and out,
and then do it again, especially if you like the mattress but just need a
different firmness. Layla offers two sides to figure out if you need medium-firm
or medium-soft. If you feel like your preference changes throughout the week,
just flip it over.

Nectar Sleep Nectar Memory Foam Mattress for $799 ($599 off)

This deal comes with two pillows, a sheet set, and a mattress topper. Though
most mattresses are constantly discounted, we see this at a $799 price most
often. That said, it usually doesn't come with all those accouterments. Side
sleepers might prefer this classic memory foam mattress, which hugs you to
sleep. It conforms to you, but you won't sink in.

The Purple Mattress for $1,249 ($150 off)

Purple Mattresses have an interesting waffle-like Jell-O-like grid that creates
softness and support. It's comfortable, but not quite as comfy as hybrids.
Purple does have a hybrid, but it's much more expensive.

Tuft & Needle Mint Mattress

Photograph: Tuft and Needle
Tuft & Needle Mint Mattress for $1,445 ($350 off)

Consider the Mint Mattress if you need pressure relief to sleep better at night.
Despite its top layer of “adaptive” foam that you'll sink into a bit, it does
feel supportive. It has green ceramic gel foam to disperse heat, and it springs
back into shape, so you shouldn't find a person-shaped indent when you return to
bed the following night. Like a bunch on this list, the price has risen since
the last deals holiday.

Casper Standard Foam Mattress for $1,166 ($129 off)

We prefer Casper's hybrid option above, but its standard foam mattress is just
as popular. It's been updated since it was first released. Casper was one of the
first in this category, so it has had time to perfect its standard mattress.

Leesa Original Mattress for $999 ($200 off):

This deal comes with two pillows. The Leesa felt a lot like the Casper, but we
actually found it to be a bit more comfy. As with Casper though, we prefer
Leesa's hybrid mattress, if you can spring for it.

Keetsa All-Foam Tea Leaf Supreme for $1,436 ($254 off)—Use Code STAYCOMFY

Enter code STAYCOMFY at checkout to see the discount. This is a perfectly fine
mattress that WIRED reviewer Matt Jancer liked. He says he was never blown away,
but he slept fine on his side for two months while testing it. The top layer is
made from recycled materials.

Deals on Covers and Toppers

Avocado Alpaca Wool Mattress Topper

Photograph: Avocado Green Mattress
Avocado Alpaca Wool Mattress Topper for $629 ($70 off)—Use Code SAVE10

Enter code SAVE10 at checkout to see the discount. If your old mattress is in
pretty good shape, you may be able to get away with just upgrading to a topper.
This one is for those who like plush mattresses. It's as expensive as some
brand-new beds, but WIRED reviewer Scott Gilbertson says putting it on your
mattress feels like being in a five-star hotel. Weirdly, Avocado's standard
cover has straps, while this one doesn't. It stayed in place thanks to its
cotton cover, but the corners occasionally bunched up.

My Green Mattress Organic Latex Topper for $254 ($45 off)—Use Code REMEMBER

Enter code REMEMBER at checkout to see the discount. If you'd rather have a firm
topper, go with this one. It's significantly cheaper than Avocado's, so you can
feel like you have a totally new mattress for just a few Benjamins. It's 2
inches thick and made of certified organic latex wrapped in an organic cotton
cover. It doesn't have any straps, but it stayed in place just fine.

Eight Sleep Pod Pro Mattress Cover for $1,695 ($100 off)

Do you love your mattress but always feel either too hot or too cold? This might
be a good investment—emphasis on the investment, because it's quite expensive. A
backpack-sized device sits next to your bed, and you can set it to cool or heat
your bed to the exact temperature you need.
