"We hear you and greatly appreciate your love for Ronzoni Pastina. After extensive efforts, we regretfully announce that Ronzoni Pastina is being discontinued," the company said in a statement. This wasn't a decision that we wanted to make." Company officials said the decision was because a long-term supplier informed the company they would no longer make the pasta. "We searched extensively for an alternative solution but were unable to identify a viable option to make Pastina in the same beloved small, shape and standards you have come to expect," the company added. The meal included a Quarter Pounder with bacon and barbecue sauce, pickles and raw onion, along with fries and a drink. A similar meal (the Travis Scott meal) was briefly introduced in nationwide locations in 2020. Artisan Grilled Chicken Sandwich (2015-2020) Courtesy of McDonald's ARTISAN GRILLED CHICKEN SANDWICH (2015-2020) This juicy, relatively healthy McDonald's staple was removed from the menu in March 2020. Although customers can still purchase a McChicken or the Buttermilk Crispy Chicken Sandwich, it's still not the same as an Artisan Grilled Chicken Sandwich, which was served on a multigrain bun and was topped with a tasty vinaigrette. The Artisan Grilled Chicken Sandwich’s demise came after the announcement that the fast food chain would be phasing out its entire Signature Crafted Recipes line to focus more on its trademark burgers. Onion Nuggets (1970s-1980s) Courtesy of McDonald's ONION NUGGETS (1970S-1980S) Do you remember McDonald’s famous Onion Nuggets? In the ‘70s and ‘80s, McDonald's tested out what was essentially bite-sized onion rings—diced onions battered in a clump and fried to greasy perfection! Following its launch in the mid-1970s, the crispy side dish went over surprisingly well with fans. Sadly, McDonald’s Onion Nuggets were removed from the menu in the early ‘80s. In its wake, however, its successor, the Chicken McNugget, has become a fast food icon. Snack Wrap (2006-2016) via YouTube SNACK WRAP (2006-2016) Perhaps one of the most disappointing discontinued items McDonald’s once offered was their Snack Wrap, also known as the McWrap, which packed crispy (or grilled!) chicken, lettuce, shredded cheese and sauce (ranch, honey mustard or salda). According to a report, the reason behind the Snack Wrap’s discontinuation was that the item was too complex and took too much time to assemble. At the end of the day, though, the Snack Wrap did achieve McDonald’s goal of attracting more millennial customers. Szechuan Sauce (1998-2018) via YouTube SZECHUAN SAUCE (1998-2018) The sauce that was gone too soon! McDonald’s much-loved Szechuan Sauce was originally released in 1998 to promote Disney’s animated film, Mulan. The dipping condiment, which mimicked traditional Chinese Szechuan sauce, was a short-lived menu addition, but nearly two decades later, a mention of it during an episode of Rick and Morty in 2017 sparked Szechuan Sauce mania. The sauce was briefly brought back to the menu between 2017 and 2018, and the public went crazy for it. Salad Shakers (2000-2003) via YouTube SALAD SHAKERS (2000-2003) For the healthier eaters who still needed a fast food option, the early 2000s offered Salad Shakers—a salad in a cup that you would add dressing to and then shake to mix. The salad cups fit perfectly in vehicle cup holders, making the item super convenient for folks on the go. Sadly, after just three years, the Salad Shakers were discontinued. Supersize Option (1992-2004) via YouTube SUPERSIZE OPTION (1992-2004) In the ‘90s and early Y2K era, If you were craving more food and drink than a typical meal, the McDonald’s Supersize option could help fill the void in your stomach. Each massive meal featured a 42-ounce, 410-calorie soda and 7-ounce, 610-calorie fries. In 2004, the popular option was discontinued because, according to McDonald’s, the chain wanted to simplify their menu and add healthier options. However, the same year, Super Size Me, a documentary about the unhealthy reality of fast food, was released in theaters, sparking backlash from the public. Sweet Chili Sauce (2010-2014) Courtesy of McDonald's SWEET CHILI SAUCE (2010-2014) So many McDonald’s sauces have been discontinued over the years. Introduced in 2010 in celebration of the Olympics, the Sweet Chili sauce was a fan favorite—and unlike, other sauces, has not since been re-released for a limited time. Critics compared its flavor to duck sauce featuring red pepper flakes. McDonaldland Cookies (1974-mid ‘90s) via YouTube MCDONALDLAND COOKIES (1974-MID ‘90S) Who could forget the sweet, buttery cookies that initially came with Happy Meals? The hard, character-shaped cookies were a staple for children growing up in the ‘70s, ‘80s and ‘90s. The sweet treat, which was similar to Animal Crackers, featured the brand’s characters: Ronald McDonald, Birdie, Grimace, the Hamburgler and Captain Crook. Eventually, the original cookies were replaced with a softer cookie recipe. In 2004, the Happy Meal cookie option was removed entirely and replaced with apple slices in a bid to be healthier. Chicken Selects (2002-2013) via YouTube CHICKEN SELECTS (2002-2013) A crispy menu staple that was beloved amongst fast food diners, who didn’t love the premium white chicken breast of the McDonald’s Chicken Selects? According to the Wall Street Journal, the company discontinued the product after attempting, and failing, to find other meals to incorporate the Chicken Selects into so they “wouldn’t get cold from sitting out after employees prepared a batch.” Various McFlurry Flavors (1997-various) Courtesy of McDonald's VARIOUS MCFLURRY FLAVORS (1997-VARIOUS) McFlurries are still widely popular to this day, but some of the most beloved flavors have been discontinued over the years. The Stroopwafel McFlurry, originally from the Netherlands, was featured in the U.S. in 2019 for limited time. Fans also miss the Snickerdoodle McFlurry which is now only available at select international locations. Some of the most beloved McFlurries were based on candies like Reeses, Butterfinger and Snickers. As of now, only Oreo and M&M McFlurries are available nationwide. Arch Deluxe (1996-2000) via YouTube ARCH DELUXE (1996-2000) First hitting the menu in 1996, the Arch Deluxe was a burger targeted at adults. Unfortunately, the product flopped within four years. The sandwich consisted of a quarter-pound beef patty with peppered bacon, lettuce, tomato, American cheese, ketchup, onion, mayonnaise and “secret” sauce. According to the Wall Street Journal, the company spent roughly $300 million on research, production and marketing for the burger. McDLT (1984-1998) via YouTube MCDLT (1984-1998) The McDLT was a cheeseburger unlike any other on the market at the time. It was served in a container that separated the warm ingredients (the burger patty) from the cold ingredients (lettuce, tomato, etc.). Fans of the McDLT loved that their meal didn’t get soggy. The item was discontinued in 1998, seemingly because the Styrofoam container was bad for the environment. Big N’ Tasty (1997-2011) via YouTube BIG N’ TASTY (1997-2011) Following the McDLT and McLean Deluxe, McDonald’s introduced the Big N’ Tasty, which was similar to Burger King’s Whopper. Kobe Bryant was featured in the ad campaign. The Big N’ Tasty is currently still sold in select markets in the Middle East and South America, but if you’re craving the big burger in the U.S., you can order something similar by asking for a Quarter Pounder sans the ketchup and mustard, with McDonald’s Mac sauce and BBQ sauce instead. Original Fried Apple Pie (1968-1992) via YouTube ORIGINAL FRIED APPLE PIE (1968-1992) McDonald’s original delicious apple pie recipe was deep-fried. In 1992, the recipe switched to a baked apple pie treat featuring Golden Delicious, Jonagold, Rome, Gala, Fuji and Ida Red apples. The recipe changed yet again in 2018. Today, the baked pies now include less sugar, real butter, more cinnamon and less apple varieties. 20 WORST PLACES TO LIVE IN NEW YORK STATE A list highlights the worst places a New York resident can call home.
