Health Pro at the National Rural and Remote Health Awards this Monday, 13th
November at Parliament House Canberra. 👏
With the Electronic Health Record (EHR) now, doctors, nurses, and paramedics
can share crucial medical information in real-time, ensuring seamless

Our Broken Hill Base was delighted to host NSW Minister for Health and
Minister for Regional Health, The Hon. Ryan Park for Keira and our local
member, Roy Butler MP on a behind the scenes tour yesterday.
Broken Hill was our first base in NSW, founded in 1937. We have a long and
proud history providing vital healthcare to communities throughout Far West
and Western NSW.✈️
It was a pleasure introducing our guests to so many of our dedicated and
passionate team, without whom we couldn't go as far as we do for the
communities we serve.

Belinda Bennett is doing amazing things in her small rural community at
Tilpa.
As an RFDS Clinic Coordinator she helps organise appointments for locals and
opens up the clinic for the community each month when our Primary Health team
fly in for Doctor Day. ✈️
Belinda is also one of our amazing We've Got Your Back 'Champions'. As a
Champion, Belinda engages in genuine conversations with her peers on the land
about mental health, where to go if they need help and providing a kind and
listening ear.
In this inspiring video, Belinda shares how she has overcome her own
challenges and how she is helping others in her dual roles with RFDS.

Dr Will grew up in Malaysia, studied medicine in Ireland and after a few
years of work, decided to move to Australia. 💺✈️

It’s important to be ready for anything when travelling in isolated areas.
But no matter how well prepared you are, things can and do go wrong.
If you should find yourself in trouble there are a few key things
to remember.👇
🚗 If your car breaks down or you become lost, stay with your vehicle.
⛱️Use it for shade and shelter and remember it is easier to locate a
missing vehicle than a missing person in the vast outback.
🗺️If you become lost while out walking, stop and study your maps. If you can
determine where you came from, go back. If you can’t, head to higher ground.
🍎Distribute food and water sparingly.
🔦 If you hear rescuers, signal with three torch flashes and with your
whistle.
🔥Light a small smoky fire with green leaves during the day and a small
bright fire with dry materials at night.
✋ Be prepared to wait.

The thought of flying when you're sick or injured can be tough, let alone on
Christmas Day. 😓🎄
🎅 This little santa, which was donated by Sue from Murray Bridge, will help
provide extra in-flight comfort to an RFDS patient today.
Throughout the year, we receive handmade teddies from many generous community
members across the country, like Sue, who kindly donate their time and
talent.
Whether it’s a young child, a soon-to-be mum, or an older loved one who
struggles with the idea of flying, the teddies make their way into the hands,
and hearts, of people from many different walks of life.
Our teddies are a key member of our crews, who will continue to fly
throughout the festive season ensuring emergency care is delivered to those
that need it. ❤️

Our RFDS Operations Control Centre (OCC) team worked around the clock last
night to help Santa deliver his presents to children across Queensland! 🎅🎁
The team shared a stream of real-time data with Santa so that he could better
manage his deliveries while supporting our pilots, doctors and nurses who
worked over Christmas to save lives. ✈️🩺

Meet Western Australia's 2023 Oceans to Outback top fundraiser, Laura's Army!
👋🏆
In January 2023, Laura had a near fatal car accident in Lake Grace, four
hours from Perth. She was transferred by the RFDS WA to Royal Perth Hospital
in a critical condition.
Laura has since learnt to walk again, and as a way to give back, brought her
family and friends together to take on our 2023 Oceans to Outback challenge.
The team covered over 2,000kms throughout October, and raised more than
$22,000 for the RFDS.
Laura's Army was invited to celebrate their huge achievement with a tour of
our Jandakot base - including a couple of surprises along the way. Laura was
introduced to our Operations Coordinator Kerri, who organised the logistics
for her retrieval, and was reunited with Retrieval Nurse Lisa, who took care
of her on the flight ❤️💙

We know the Grawin community is a resilient bunch.
As part of our GROW Days, our Primary Health, Engagement and Mental Health
teams regularly visit and have met some incredible people along the way.🌱
But only a few weeks ago, locals were battling bushfires which sadly
destroyed many properties in the area.
To show our support, we headed out west to put on a free barbecue and offer
peer support. It was great to be there for them in their time of need.💙

They did it! Alli Nevil and Margaret Symes have successfully completed their
incredible 300 kilometre walk from Tibooburra to Broken Hill in support of
our mental health and wellbeing services. ✈️
They had to deal with temperatures reaching more than 40 degrees and the
desolate stretch of road, walking on average about 25kms per day. ☀️
While she doesn’t have any plans for a third walk, Marg couldn’t rule it out.

We highlighted the critical role the RFDS plays as part of the NSW health
system's frontline - delivering lifesaving aeromedical healthcare; but also

practice, and a range of other essential primary health services that
communities across our state rely on us for every day.

For Kayelene Crossing, family means everything and she extends this to her

Kayelene is also lucky enough to work with her father, Peter, within the

Meet Wayne and Kelly from the Shipside Grey Nomads 👋
This group of ex-Navy men and women have been donating the proceeds from
their annual caravanning trips to the RFDS WA since 2019 - totalling an

Our Fortescue Heli-Med Service EC145 helicopters have just retrieved their
200th patient 🥳
It's been a busy period since the launch of the Service in May 2022, with
patients being transferred from 45 different locations around WA. The most
common retrieval site is Rottnest Island (33) followed by Bunbury (23) and
Narrogin (20).
For Jess Silver, the Heli-Med service meant that her newborn baby girl,
Lexie, was able to be transported quickly from the Wheatbelt to Perth
Children's Hospital, after experiencing feeding challenges. Lexie became the
the first baby to be moved by the Newborn Emergency Transport Service (NETS)
using the RFDS helicopter 🚁👶

base to deliver the Newborn Life Support Course in collaboration with the

The half day course is specifically designed for clinical staff who may be
required to deliver resuscitation to newborn babies. Taught by neonatal
experts, the course consists of practical skills and simulation-based

When working on a remote cattle station, it can be dire when things go wrong.
What started as a typical day for remote Area Nurse Justine turned very
quickly when a stockman was injured. Thanks to her quick thinking, the
stockman was able to receive the care he needed.

Aydan is our Keeping Health Puura Manti Program (KHPMP) Project Officer. The
KHPMP is a chronic disease program funded by WNSW PHN for people with
multiple chronic diseases in underserviced locations across Western NSW.✈️

that people can live well," Aydan said.

Happy retirement to Operations Coordinator, Robert O'Brien!
Since starting with the RFDS in 2008, Robert has helped coordinate crews to
provide medical assistance to approximately 70,000 patients. Robert has
trained and mentored many staff members in the ROC (Regional Operations
Centre) and is much loved by crews across our five bases.

Last night, we held our Evening with the RFDS event at Queensland Parliament
House.
It was a fantastic opportunity to showcase the services we offer, and we were

Meet one of our Operations Coordinators, Stewart Harris 👋
Stew works in the Regional Operations Centre (ROC) at our Jandakot base,
where he and the team work hard to dispatch crews to people who need medical
attention all over our huge state ❤️💙
After a year and a half with the RFDS WA, Stew is cool, calm and collected
amidst the ever-changing environment of the ROC, and appreciates the
difference he can make with just one phone call 📞

Our Broken Hill Base was delighted to host NSW Minister for Health and
Minister for Regional Health, The Hon. Ryan Park for Keira and our local
member, Roy Butler MP on a behind the scenes tour yesterday.
Broken Hill was our first base in NSW, founded in 1937. We have a long and
proud history providing vital healthcare to communities throughout Far West
and Western NSW.✈️
It was a pleasure introducing our guests to so many of our dedicated and
passionate team, without whom we couldn't go as far as we do for the
communities we serve.

Belinda Bennett is doing amazing things in her small rural community at
Tilpa.
As an RFDS Clinic Coordinator she helps organise appointments for locals and
opens up the clinic for the community each month when our Primary Health team
fly in for Doctor Day. ✈️
Belinda is also one of our amazing We've Got Your Back 'Champions'. As a
Champion, Belinda engages in genuine conversations with her peers on the land
about mental health, where to go if they need help and providing a kind and
listening ear.
In this inspiring video, Belinda shares how she has overcome her own
challenges and how she is helping others in her dual roles with RFDS.

Dr Will grew up in Malaysia, studied medicine in Ireland and after a few
years of work, decided to move to Australia. 💺✈️
Upon completing his training 📚 in Emergency Medicine, he embarked on a new

metro areas, and this creates real hardship for the families and communities
living in the bush.
We at the RFDS work to reduce the disparity in health service access. We bring
emergency medical and primary health services to those areas that don't have
access. We make it possible for people to live, work and travel across this
large continent.
