In case you haven't heard, Santa Barbara has transformed its downtown area into
a pedestrian mall, with restaurants, bars, and other businesses expanding onto
sidewalks and into the main boulevard, infusing a sense of energy and vitality.
The State Street Promenade spans multiple blocks and is closed to vehicle
traffic while cross streets continue to pass through it. People who visit this
popular corridor are encouraged to wear masks, especially on the 500 block of
State Street, where the greatest number of bars and restaurants are
concentrated.

FARMERS MARKET

The Santa Barbara Certified Farmers' Market Association (SBCFMA) was established
in 1983 as Non-Profit Mutual Benefit Corporation to provide California farmers
with direct access to market their products to the local community. The initial
farmers' market in Santa Barbara was held at the Santa Barbara Mission in 1979,
which was among one of the first 20 farmers' markets in the State of California.
Some of the original participants can still be found selling their produce at
the Santa Barbara farmers' markets. Over the years, their Member owned and
operated Association has grown to approximately 130 Members, participating in
their 6 weekly certified farmers' markets throughout Santa Barbara, Goleta,
Montecito, Carpinteria and Solvang. The SBCFMA is committed to the direct
marketing principles of "producer to consumer", working diligently to bring the
freshest and most nutritious produce our rich local agricultural land has to
offer, direct to the public.

Chef Sato elevated his career when he became a chef at the prestigious Tokyo

Sushi Zen in Oregon, he opened Sato's Kitchen in Santa Barbara. More than twenty

INSTITUTION ALE COMPANY

Founded in 2013, Institution Ale Company is known for utilizing non-traditional
ingredients such as vanilla, cocoa nibs, coffee and peppers. All their beer is
brewed in a 3-vessel, 15-barrel, Premier Stainless brewing system. Everything
from recipe development, ingredient selection, the brewing process and packaging
are completed in house by the company's brew team to create handcrafted ales.
Institution Ale's flagship location is at 3841 Mission Oaks Boulevard in
Camarillo and the Santa Barbara outlet opened in 2019. "We love the architecture
of the building, the retro style, the location being in the heart of State
Street and the inviting all-glass store front," said Institution Ale Company
co-founder Shaun Smith at the opening. "With this location, we are able to share
all our beers with a new community. Beer is best when it's fresh. We are able to
brew a beer and drive it 40 minutes up the road and put it on tap for everyone
in Santa Barbara." Institution Ale is open seven days a week. Enjoy a rotating
selection of beers from the source and freshly baked thin crust pizzas and soft
pretzels from their kitchen. Institution Ale offers indoor seating with 10 TVs,
an outdoor patio area and extended back room area. Beer is available to-go in
4-pack 16-oz cans, and 32 oz or 64 oz growlers/crowlers. Food is also available

MODERN TIMES BEER

Modern Times Beer offers 34 different beers on tap, with the core lineup being
about 8, while the rest rotate in constantly to give you access to everything
they have to offer. All beer offerings are brewed at their Portland, Los
Angeles, or San Diego locations, and each region brews different things
depending on needs and production schedules. In addition to the tasting room
they have a kitchen for hot food and a mini-mart with beer to-go and
t-shirts/bags.

The bar menu is 100% plant-based yet not in the traditional sense, going for
bolder and richer flavors than you might expect. They offer a double-double
burger, a Bratwurst Schnitzel sandwich, loaded chili verde fries, Kimchi, and
more. The cheese is made from coconut milk while the proteins are made by Beyond
Meat which recently had a wildly successful public offering.

When you walk into Modern Times Beer, one of the first things you will notice is
the huge outdoor patio (one of the largest if not the largest in Santa Barbara)
and an extensive amount of art on the walls. Modern Times Beer has an in-house
art team that created all the design elements that you see. They designed the
to-go beer can labels, the merchandise, the tasting room space - pretty much
everything under the roof or outdoors.

Continuing with the everything-done-in-house theme, Modern Times Beer also
roasts their own coffee, available for sale as whole bean or cold brew in cans
or in draft.

Night Lizard Brewing Company is committed to producing the highest quality craft

Night Lizard is named after a rare lizard found on the nearby Channel Islands. A
large painted logo inside the brewery has the above mission statement which is
dedicated to fresh beers, and a commitment to the environment. The restaurant's
theme is "Saving the Planet One Beer at a Time." Each of The Night Lizard
Brewing Company brews are named after an endangered species from the Central
Coast of California, including Goby Brut IPA, the Tiger Salamander Saison, the
Leatherback Blonde and the Gnatcatcher IPA, to name a few. The hand crafted bar
is made from a locally sources fallen redwood from the Santa Barbara Riviera.
The front entrance is a patio setting with a gas fireplace and some seating with
pillows feature the lizard logo. Night Lizard Brewing Company is dog friendly.
Night Lizard Brewing Company is a family owned and operated business. Owner John
Nasser says it was a dream after a long business career to open a craft brewery
with his family. Each family member has a great passion for the outdoors and

ARLINGTON THEATRE

The Arlington Theatre is the largest movie theater, and one of the principal
performing arts venues, in Santa Barbara. In addition to regular movie
screenings and artists, it is home to many events put on by the annual Santa
Barbara International Film Festival. The Arlington was built in 1931 on the
former site of the Arlington Hotel, which was destroyed in the 1925 Santa
Barbara earthquake. The current building was erected in 1930 as a showcase movie
house for Fox West Coast Theaters and the name "Fox" appeared on the spire for
decades. It was restored and expanded in the mid-1970s by Metropolitan Theaters
Corporation.

It is a small theater with a good variety of snacks, amazing location, and good
shape chairs and structure in general. It has a lot of character. There’s no
frills here but that’s why it’s so affordable. With a parking lot above it's
easy to park and walk down to the theater. You do have to pay for parking but

Nice little theater on State Street. Nothing fancy, but the theater is perfectly
located if you want to catch a show while it and about in downtown Santa
Barbara. An old vaudeville house on lower State Street, the former Mission
Theatre was built in the 1913 and had 1,000 seats. By 1941 it was operated by
Warner Bros. Circuit Management Corp. In the late-1980’s, it was gutted and
converted into a fourplex (built within), with a new marquee. The old stage
house was walled off and and the dressing rooms converted into retail space.
There is a small history display on your right, when going to the cinemas,
before you go upstairs to the restrooms.

Santa Barbara's Victoria Street Theatre (a.k.a. The New Vic Theatre) is home to
and owned by the Ensemble Theatre Company (ETC). Ensemble Theatre Company

thought-provoking theatrical productions, develops the community's knowledge and

Ensemble Theatre Company of Santa Barbara began as the Ensemble Theatre Project
in 1978 under the direction of Joseph Hanreddy. For the first three years, plays
were performed at Trinity Episcopal Church. In 1981, ETC made the 140-seat
Alhecama Theatre its home for more than 25 years. Beginning in 2009, ETC
undertook a $12.6 million renovation of the Victoria Hall Theatre. It opened its
new 300-seat home, the New Vic, in 2013. The New Vic has become a venue for
dance, music, film, and lectures.
